Inflation  is supposed to have fallen to 2% but I wonder how long we,ll have to wait to see longer toilet rolls again or more food items added to food packets.  The insidious thing is we only ever see the effects of inflation. Nothing ever seems to work in reverse.
when do you ever see a manufacturer add on their packaging "longer length" or "more biscuits now added"!!
It used to happen in the 80s and 90s a bit more often. The last thing I recall increasing in size was around 2018 I think when Mars increased the size of all there share bags of sweets to around 178g from 150g and kept the price the same. Of course post COVID these have dropped to 136g.

I noticed Aldi wipes now say 'more wipes, now 80 in a pack'. Except the price has gone up and the cost per wipe remains the same.

The poster I quoted actually said:
Was in Tesco earlier and all their LU biscuits were £1.
Looked at the chocolate ones (biscuit with a layer of chocolate, much like the Bahlsen ones) andf the box was tiny.  Checked the size and it was 112.5g.

Lu Le Petit Chocolat Milk Chocolate Biscuits 112.5g - Tesco Groceries

Popped into Sainsbury where all their LU biscuits were £2, but the chocolate ones were 150g.

Have they cut pretty much 25% off the size of the biscuits, or do different supermarkets have different sized boxes?

There was no mention of clubcard prices - which was my point to you.
You actually agreed with me that the Tesco price for 2 packets for £2.00 (that is clubcard prices) is better value than Sainsburys offer.

If you have the time and money to trot all over town to get the best value on everything on your shopping list, then good for you.
Biscuits don't feature highly on my money-saving list (that's because I rarely buy them).
Sorry I thought this was a money saving forum, and so highlighted where they were available cheaper, and clarified Tesco's was an offer/clubcard price so makes the smaller packet size a bit dodgy, so not sure why you feel the need to respond like that.

I regret that you didn't like my response.
The 'you' I referred to in my 2nd paragraph was a generic 'you' rather than you personally.

And you're right - this is a money saving forum.
But my point was it's surely it's not money saving to visit every shop in a 10 mile radius to buy the cheapest item on your shopping list.

Husband is convinced that Magnums have shrunk, both in size and number in a box.

Birds Eye potato waffles have definitely shrunk in size but nutritional info remains the same.

Magnums have shrunk from 110ml to 100ml.  The newer "fancy" variants (e.g. Pink Lemonade, Blueberry Cookie, Sun Lover etc.) are even smaller at 90ml or 85ml.

There have been 3 in a box for a few years now.  It used to be 4 but that was quite some time ago (pre-COVID).

Asda chocolate coated peanuts have new packaging ....... containing 150g against the old 200g :(
Another thing I have noticed is that they have removed a lot of their long term multi buy offers, the price has stayed the same so an effective price increase for a lot of items.

  • In a rarity these days, Haribo bags at corner shops have got 10% extra currently and are price marked at £1.25 or two bags for £2. Weights vary but generally around 176g of sweets which I know is still slightly more than the supermarket but it isn't bad in this era of shrinkflation.
