Made it to Tesco's free food event in Dundee last night - had to change from last week as OH was having a bad few days.
Have to say I was quite impressed - I am very p*ssed off with Tesco at the mo' as they messed up my last online order in a big way and took way too long to sort their mistake  - anyway long story. But I signed up cos I do like something for nothing:D
It took a couple of hours - bit of an unnecessary spiel by the store manager to begin with, then some info about how they make their different bread products. A tour of the bakery - which I quite enjoyed - it's a push-button-machine-driven set-up, not so much 'traditional' baker skills. The bakery manager was an enthusiastic guy, but not hard-line corporate IYKWIM. It was interesting to see what they make from scratch and what they cook from frozen.
good samples of a few of their different breads, some cakes, soft drinks, tea and coffee. Freebie bag had all the ingredients and the recipe for a bread and butter pudding - so brioche rolls, butter, eggs, sugar, cornflour, raspberries, almond or rice milk and jam. also a camembert cheese, carton of soup, fougasse bread and a pretzel.:)
My suspicious head wonders what they're up too - the official line is that they are trying to get back to basics - selling food. They wanted clubcard numbers on feedback - further customer analysis? But I'd go again - next one is meant to be on finest food - so we're not having our tea before we go!
Anyone got any baking recipes for using up two boxes of cornflour?0 -

the one we went to, we both got a goody bag (me and my guest), though we didn't get the brioche or the fougasse bread - got a chocolate caramel tart, coconut macaroon and tear and share sweet bread instead.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500

Husband and I went to one last night - enjoyed it very much and most impressed with the goodie bags. We got similar to others and had one each. One lady even asked if she could have one for her sister and they obliged! There were a couple of children there and they were given packs of donuts which was nice.
Hope to get to the the next one, especially if it on Finest Food!0 -
We went to our local one this evening and it was great. As others have said, an intro talk, tour of the bakery followed by samples and a goody bag. Very impressed. We will look forward to any more that they do.0
