Hi Guys,my mates i -pad has a Trojan?? don,t know which, or even how he knows;;
I,ve never used an i-pad, and he wants me to try and remove it.
I intend to do same as laptop.mbam, spybot, eset.etc , the usual, BUT, are these all conducive to apple i-pad?
Don,t know what,s trouble till 1000hrs, but wanted to gen up on it prior.any advice would be welcome.
I thought apple were pretty resilient to bugs?
will end up back on here, requesting help.

Hi, you need to get more info from him as the chances of a true virus are trojan are virtually nil, that isn't saying there isn't a problem, just that a virus won't be it .There are 10 types of people who understand binary, those that do and those that don't !0 -

All I know is , he says it,s a Trojan, but, don,t yet know what a/v etc is on his system, or how he detected it.
can you get into safemode same as pc, , or is apple different?.F8? etc0 -
Just restore it from scratch. That is your only option really.
If they haven't kept up to date back ups, their fault.
Change any and all passwords, including the itunes one.
It wont be a trojan, or malware on an ipad. It'll possibly be a native behaviour that they've not seen before, or an app not working right.
Unless he's jailbroken it, then again start of this thread is the way to go.0 -
Hi Guys, thanks for reply. misinformed, it,s daughters laptop.( dell) and her boyfriends laptop?
Avira A/v was saying 18 trojans, but could not remove without upgrade.
I went in via safemode, ran mbam, found 14 falts,, and fixed them. Then ran avira in safemode, and removed the Trojans, there were 40 warnings, just left them.
When I logged on,normal, with difficulty, Avira said problems still there, so took it off in safemode, and tried 3 times to download Avast, failed each time.?
Tried restore point,in safe mode,it was turned off, it wouldn,t let me turn it on???
Really corrupted.
Told daughter to back up everything,if possible, and would try factory restore, but, no discs.Get it back tomorrow, and try again.
That,s the status quo, ,0 -
Scan in normal mode rather than safe mode wherever possible.
Don't use system restore when trying to combat malware.
If the installed AV can't deal with the infection, don't try to remove it to install another that might fail to address the problem too - use a standalone scanner, online scanner or bootdisk etc.
Failing that, manual removal would be required.0 -

Avira wouldn,t do anything, unless I upgraded, pay, which didn,t seem right to me.so removed it. now it has none, at present.
Cannot understand why Avast failed 3 times to exe?
In normal mode, Avira was blocking everything I tried, couldn,t launch anything.that,s why I removed it ?0 -

Hi Joe, sorry I thought I had ticked all the 'notify on new post' boxes when registering but I mustn't have !
As waddler quite rightly says some malware blocks/removes known anti-malware programs and a live cd version (a DVD you boot your pc from and then run a scan without starting windows) may be the final solution. However we jump ahead try installing one (or all if possible) of the following well respected malware scanners....
malwarebytes'dot'org/products/malwarebytes_free/ (only run in 'free' mode its just as effective).
superantispyware'dot'com/download.html (free version again)
bleepingcomputer'dot'com/download/publisher/farbar/ (recovery scan utility)
bleepingcomputer'dot'com/virus-removal/ (guides by infection name)
If no luck or the process seems too complicated please post back
NOTE: I had to remove the www. from each web address and insert the 'dot' instead of a full stop as I am not allowed to post links yet, ho humThere are 10 types of people who understand binary, those that do and those that don't !0 -
The malware blocking the download and/or installation? Which is exactly the reasoning behind not removing an installed AV when infected.
They never tell you the truth when they do something.Not me Dad;;;
See when /if I get it back, after backing up, what happens, but. without recovery discs, clean sweep may not be an option, is it?
Kids too lazy to run what I put on for them, then want wonder why it fails.18 trojans etc didn,t appear overnight I doubt.mbam, found umpteen problems, which I fixed,ok; didn,t have chance to run spybot
PS;;I tried looking in control panel for security centre, same as mine, Vista premium, to see what was running..No security centre there????;:beer:0 -
