Vaio, the £75 difference is between Band C (£30 p/a) and Band D (£105).
OP was effectively sold the car as Band C it would seem. And that my son, is how to waft a towel!0 -

You buy a brand new car:
List Price is say, £10,000 (including fees etc)
VAT is 20% (£2000)
Total to oay to dealer is £12,000
Drive it off forecort and the VAT has gone and you are now £2000 down
This is called depreciation.
As per what Jamie has said, depreciation is not related to duty paid on the car. Why would it be?
Its related to what people are willing to pay for a (slightly) used car compared to a new one and what margin the trade need in between.0 -
And in the meantime the poorer end of society of subsidising these savings for the rich who can afford to go out and buy brand new cars through higher rates for older vehicles with higher emissions........
Is that right? Mine has emissions >225g/km but because it's pre 2006 I only pay £280 rather than the £475/490 it would be it it was post 20060 -
TP i know we have our differences some times, but credit where credit is due, well spotted.
:T
Thanks Paul, I think we both have decent knowledge and our hearts are in the right places, it's just I like good cars and you like bad ones
Just kidding with the last bit mate, all the best :beer:And that my son, is how to waft a towel!0 -
I think we are still making an incorrect assumption here.
Band D (121-130 g/km) vehicles (which the Punto in question sounds like it is) are £0 in year 1, £105 in subsequent years, confirmed here;
https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables
There are currently 5 different engines available for the Punto. 2 of which are band 'A' and 1 band 'B'.
How do you know the OP's is in band 'D'?PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
We dont because, despite asking many times, the OP has not told us the model of car they bought.0

Exactly, if the OP had told us this earlier any of us could have looked it up on
http://carfueldata.dft.gov.uk/search-new-or-used-cars.aspx
Which displays the first year VED amount followed by the next years price.0 -
Another thread which could of been shorter! And we STILL don't know the definitive answer!PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0
