take a look at the times ive been posting.. this is after my working day is over and im relaxing with a nice brandy. do you really think I'd be posting in here if its costing me money? get a grip! :rotfl:

Why would the times necessarily mean anything. I post from all over the world in all different time zones.....your posts at 2pm or 2am don't make me think you are odd, unemployed, transient or without a life.....perhaps they should?

I don't make huge assumptions on what I read, but clearly you do.
  • Sure you do. You take the contract if that's better in the long run. No one is forcing you to sue people.

Of course I have no option.. as soon as solicitors get involved it costsmoney and I’m not talking about a few hundred quid, but thousands with theamount of man hours spent preparing for the case. So if I don’t follow it through to the end andwin then it’s ME that has to cover the legal costs out of my own pocket!

So let me clarify: Iam a UK based freelance photographer whose working day starts around 8am andnormally finishes sometime after midnight on a good day. So yes in that respect you are correct whenyou say I have no life.

Over time the money made from the contract could outweigh the legal costs lost.

After paying legal costs does it really work out better for you to keep taking people to court. The amount you get from a case for the time spent and clients lost. If you'd just ignored the odd idiot using a photo, how much would them contracts have brought in not only then but in the future.

Well when I say ignore, you can get photos removed from sites in other ways if the person using it doesn't agree to take it down and you can report any listings on ebay.

For bigger cases where you'd get more and can guarantee winning it might make sense. For small cases it doesn't seem worth it to me. Obviously I don't know what you're making or anything, but it sounds like you're losing more than you're gaining.

The genre of photography I shoot is notorious for people stealing / abusing image licensing so if im not seen to be taking action agains websites, companies or people that missuse my images it will cost me a lot more in the long-term not only in the fiscal sense but reputation wise aswell.

As I have said previously I really don't like taking people to court, but I will if needed and I will win.

Bob, this post is not about you, why don't you do one? No one is interested in your little life as a happy snapper.

I for one am dubious about someone who registers solely to post on one thread and then won't leave it alone.

As I said there's other actions that can be taken.

In the end it's your choice and only you know what you're making and so on.

That's a bit harsh. They have every right to be on this thread and, if they wish, only post on this thread. The thread has gone off topic somewhat, but their first post was just their experience/opinion on the matter.

It does seem like they're trying to scare the OP and I'm certainly not siding with them, but it's their opinion on something they feel they have knowledge on and they've come back again to reply and defend that opinion which is a common thing on forums. Just because we reply on various threads doesn't mean others care to.

As far as I am aware no one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to read it.. or are they?

Im not trying to scare anyone, least of all someone who will never come back to the thread.. Im just attempting to educate a few people so that next time this situation raises its ugly head you will be able to offer valid advice instead of the waffle that was given to the OP originally...
