  • I've been to the butchers today and have 2 weeks worth of dog food for £2.70 :eek:! How cheap is that! Obviously it will get slightly more expensive to do as I add in other meats, offal and bones but great start hey :D. I also went to the pet shop as the butchers didn't sell tripe so for a 2kg bag which does our sized dog nearly a week it was around £4.85 I think (lost receipt so not sure exactly!) but that's 3 weeks worth of food for less than a tenner :T He'll start on it on Saturday when his kibble runs out and I have a bag of chicken mince in the fridge de-frosting.

Well, that's a result. Hope dogs enjoy the new menu option(s).

Hope the rest of the day goes well.
  • Hiya

How did you learn about what you should be feeding your dog? Was it online or a book? Quite interested in it. Are you going to mix in a biscuit type ingredient as well?

Sounds like it isn't going to be an expensive option, like I feared it might be. Look forward to hearing how you get on. x

Steph I was invited to join this group on FB- https://www.facebook.com/groups/rawfeedinguk/. There is a sticky thing at the top of that group page that you need to read all the way through as it's full of info and the first thing you should feed your dog in the transition is chicken, we've opted for chicken mince as it contains bone. Eventually once he's changed over he will be eating 10% offal, 10% bone, 80% meat. I didn't think it would be cheap at all but so far pleasantly surprised...although wary that I've only bought chicken so far and it may get more expensive as I branch into bones, offal and other types of more expensive meats! You need to weigh your dog and then work out 2-4% of his body weight and that's what you feed them a day. I'm awaiting batteries for my scales in the post but have averaged that the dog is around 10kg so he will be fed 300g of meat a day. I guess the bigger the dog the more expensive it is. And from that page I read, no, you can't mix biscuits or cooked meat in. They get broken down at slower rates to meat in the dog so therefore meat will be in their systems for longer and thus meaning the dog is more prone to getting salmonella etc from meats. At least this is what I've read from the fb page (and other pages across the internet seem to collaborate with this). If you butcher your own meat anyway I don't see how you can go wrong. All the bits you don't eat could be weighed out to correct portions, frozen and fed to the dog :T

Would also be a wise move to mix a little of the new diet into his old diet just to wean him onto the new food, a sudden total changeover will upset his tummy.
Its just a bad day, Not a bad life ..
  • Morning all, I'm on my nook so please excuse any typos!
I've done something that's not mse and bought a new dresser :o . My friend suggested it after I had a pretty rubbish end to my day yesterday and I decided she's right I need some sort of distraction to keep me sane whilst living here so its my new shabby chic project :) I'm only paying 45 for it which I think is pretty cheap and I will need paint etc but it should keep me busy. My meditation teacher called me last night too sensing something was wrong and I burst into tears :o I don't want to go back to the drs but I can feel the depression slowly encasing me under its black cloud :( . I'm meeting with her next week to draw up a plan of sorts to help me. I've also enrolled on a nutrition course so that I can help out with home start in some other areas to home visiting. I think I know most of it anyway as it looks quite basic but I needed the certificate so have asked to do it :)

I though life was supposed to be easy and happy once i'd gotten rid of the debt!

  • Aaaaw hun. <<<<<<<BIG CYBER HUGS>>>>>>>>

Do you think its worth going to the Drs. I tried for over a year to kick myself out of my pit of anxiety and constant feelings of dread but it just did'nt go away without a little help. Don't let it get too bad, you don't have to stay on meds for long. I took them for 6 months, then weaned myself off and I have felt great ever since.

Maybe it might be a good idea to get some medicinal help, just until you get moved and settled somewhere else.

This bloomin weather does'nt help. think some of us (me included) get a touch of that SAD this time of year. I am such a sun worshipper that I struggle during January & February.

Keep smiling hun, you are a wonderful fab person who deserves to be happy.

Keep posting on here so we can give you some cyber help xxxx
  • Oh DFW, Im sorry you feel as though the depression is coming back I know you have been on and off the meds for a while now.

Really hope today you feel a little brighter, I know its not that simple though.

Maybe the dresser is a good idea, another project to get your teeth into, didn't you enjoy renovating the last one ?

As much as you are debt free, which obviously is fantastic, there are always still a million other pressures flying around. You cant be expected to be jolly and happy all of the time lovely lady. xx

Nope - I think that sounds a lovely project and something to focus on. Let us know what colour its going to be.

I understand not wanting to go back to the Dr's. The meditation teacher is a start. Sometimes when I feel overwhelmed and think I'm going to have a panic attack, I find just writing down everything I'm meant to do helps. It doesn't necessarily mean that I'm going to get it all done, but I can then see in black & white what is required and somehow just looking at it separately isn't so scary - if that makes sense. I can pick one item at a time, do that and once I've accomplished one thing, I feel good that "I've finished something" and I can move onto the next.
I've also enrolled on a nutrition course so that I can help out with home start in some other areas to home visiting. I think I know most of it anyway as it looks quite basic but I needed the certificate so have asked to do it :)

Sounds like something I should really do - I know I'm eating (some) rubbish. Although I'm munching spinach likes its going out of business. I might see how easy it is to grow myself - indoors.

    Take care of yourself xxxx
  • Cant do the whole multi quoting thing, I have no patience to figure out how its done, so just wanted to say that I do exactly as Just About There re writing things down when I am overwhelmed. It really helps me focus and also makes me smile when I see that I have actually achieved a mountain of things. I used to write my lists on myoriginal diary back int he day and cross them off on there. Probably bored everyone to tears but it really helped me .

Hope you have a better day today, take care xx

  • The whole multi quoting thing was achieved by having the site open twice and going back and forth on the 'proper' computer. Definitely not going to happen 'out of hours'.
