  • It's for a volunteer position I want to see if I'd like to get work in this field....

    :)

    Hi DFW

What a brilliant thing for you to do in your 'spare' time (not quite sure where you are fitting it in).

I used to volunteer for Home Start and I really enjoyed it - as I was a teenage mum I got to meet with the younger mums.

Most of the time we just chatted and I played with the kids to give the mums a break.

Sometimes we went out and there were normally outings organised and I had to help the mothers who had more than 2 kids.

I really enjoyed it and if I wasn't working full time I would do it again.

I got involved because when my mum had twins 26 years ago (plus 3 other children) she had a lady in the village come to see her once a week and she was from Home Start. So when I found I had spare time (only working part time) I thought I wanted to get involved.

There was a right mix in my group who were being trained up - one lady was really posh and lived in a massive house, had a house in London and her children went to boarding school.
She was so lovely but I worried what the mum's who she supported thought of her as she had nver suffered a day of worry in her life.

    Will keep my fingers crossed.

Im sure mine was about £25. Do you want a down duvet? We have a down duvet that's hardly used and I can't use it anymore as ive become allergic. It's a lovely warm double
£25! Oh wow perhaps i'm looking in the wrong places :o! Yes that's what I was after a downy one as we've got pillows and they are so cosy and lovely I wanted to get everyone a duvet like it (we've all got cheap hollowfibre atm which is all clumpy as they've all been washed :o!)

Oh so glad someone can give me some 'real life' experiences :T I don't do anything during the day (well aside from housework, shopping, dog walking, exercise, more housework and cooking :rotfl:) so i've put down I can do term time / school hours :) I've a friend who did it during her uni course for experience and she told me it should be fine to do it during school term times as she did (i'm worried i'll have no child care, plus DH is away from Oct-Dec) I've pm'd her on FB asking her what sort of families she was put with and what to expect but not heard back yet :) so thanks for that EE I now have an idea :T I had no help from HS myself but I've had lots of help from HV's and even kindly neighbours who have given me a hand and advice so was really pleased when I found out about HS and that I could help )well I hope I can and that they don't turn me down  how embarrassing would that be!

  • Morning!

Well I survived the school run which was a small miracle considering the kids were all being little miscreants today ! Done the food shopping which I will add to my signature in a minute, it came in at £45.55 :T and I got lots of fresh fruit/veg/ juices & stocked up the cupboard a little bit :). I also got DS1 a reflective bag cover to put on his school bag when he's riding on his bike home. I just hope he uses it as it isn't very cool, but very practical :o!

I stopped at the pet shop and changed brands of (wet) food for the dog as I found one cheaper, with more meat content than the other one and a slightly bigger pack! He only has half a pouch of wet put over his dry food in the morning and then dinnertime he has a bowl of dry food not only to keep costs down but to stop him being sick! He has such a sensitive little tummy I daren't feed him much, the vet said it was quite normal though !?!

Whilst parked up at the pet shop I popped to h@lfords next door and asked them if they had a tool to get my roof bars off the car, they haven't been used in forever since DS came home from boarding school and I think the car looks nicer without them (i know such a girly thing to say :o) DH has been 'meaning to do it' forever!! So i went and asked myself , flashed a few smiles and the man scurried around looking for the right tool, then let me have the tool to keep in case I never found my one at home ;):rotfl::rotfl: who says there is no benefit to being a woman eh :p

I've got ironing to do STILL. I hate it :(! DH did the kids a uniform each last night when he ironed his uniform but they need their clothes changing every day because they get them so dirty! Will crack on with that as otherwise I will keep thinking about it and it will pee me off :rotfl: Also want to fit in 20 mins yoga practice for the harder ones I was trying to do last Friday! As we've joined the advanced class (:rotfl:) I suppose I had better at least try and get a bit better than I currently am :p

Payday next Monday and we've done ok this month, not brilliant considering I was down to £1 most of the weekend and today I only had £50 in my account for a few hours (child benefit) before it was spent again on food :o I still have the whole week to get through yet! Good news is I have money in my envelopes for petrol still & clothes & kids clubs after DS1 seems to have given them all up!!! I've been using that money for my Friday yoga class instead ;) well it had to come from somewhere considering i'd used all my pocket money for a family take out / stuff for the house that no one else thought to contribute too!

  • I'm exhausted! I've done too much and now I just want to sleep :rotfl:!

I made 2 loads of washing powder/DW powder up as DH had run it all down and not told me :naughty:. I've spent an hour ironing, 20 mins doing yoga (before collapsing during a plank :o) the kitchen is tidied as per Flylady's thread (oops I forgot to post it on here though! I wrote down what I needed to do and crossed it off though :D) I've hoovered upstairs and downstairs, mopped bathroom and kitchen and put some bread on as well as DW and WM umm and hung the washing out that was lying all round the house trying to dry :rotfl:(it gets to 3/4 dry then decides to stop so a bit of wind should help it ;)) I've no more energy now and so am just doing a very quick dinner of pasta bake & veg tonight! The kids must be sick of it by now :o!

Dog is sat staring at me so i'm debating whether to take him out for 40 mins before the school run now although really don't want to and may just[STRIKE] let[/STRIKE] make ds1 do it when he gets home

Here's what I made in my kenwood processor today:

  • I don't feel like i've stopped since yesterday! I went to bed at 7pm after the kids nearly drove me to a breakdown (thank god for 6pm) One of the kids I look after kept calling me, time after time, after time ...I think if I'd heard my name one more time I would have changed it as I was so fed up of hearing it. The odd thing was I answered her the first time too and she was so busy listening to the sound of her own voice she just kept going on :wall:she wanted me to watch everything she did !!! And I mean EVERYTHING at the same time that i'm trying to finish their dinner, look at what 5 other kids are saying/showing/telling me :(. By 6pm I was exhausted, my kids were in bed by 6.30 and I was following them up with a hot chocolate and t.v and I must have been asleep by 8.30 :o!!

Today wasn't much better! The eldest childminded girl came out of school nearly in tears all because she was supposed to be at an after school club that I knew nothing about so had come out to tell me  so we had to take her back sign the permission slip and leave her there ....for all of 30 mins as we'd spent so much time messing about. SIGH. Her mum knew nothing about it tonight either so not sure who signed her up originally?! The youngest childminded one also had something during school and was supposed to have gone in in wellies and she didn't...friend knew nothing about this either!!! My friend is so totally unorganised - it's a good job she's my friend rather than a stranger or she'd drive me nuts:rotfl::rotfl:

    NSD today though :T

Had a relaxing bike ride too so not a total loss of a day :rotfl: The housework has gone to pot though as I didn't do any this afternoon I popped to town instead to advise a friend on shoes & bras :rotfl::rotfl:her hubby is due back for R&R next week *wit woo* :rotfl:

    Anyway I'll stop rambling. :D

  • I've just sat down, been busy all day again. The sun is trying to break through here so i've made the most of it and changed 2/4 beds, washed all the cushion covers from the front room and washed as many clothes as possible! Things just aren't getting dry inside the house :(! I'm looking into a heated dryer, which is cheaper to buy & run than a tumble drier but it's still a hefty outlay for a airer  all the reviews are good so I think I will just get it and see how I get on. I'm fed up of umming and ahhing over whether to get it and mean while on a miserable day which isn't cold enough to put the heating on indoors all my clothes are laying round damp for days on end  so annoying!

Today i've cleaned the kitchen, done several washes (i've lost count of how many have gone on now and i'm not looking forward to putting it all away later!) hoovered downstairs & baked a banana loaf (kids favourite :)) was going to do a sponge too but not enough butter! I need to pop out still to the shops for toilet rolls & butter and also take the dog for a walk :( I can't believe I have all day to myself and still don't find an hour to just sit down and relax!

Checked bank, nothing pending but I still have one more DD due before the end of the month so will keep checking. No more rent money from tenant yet, although she is only one day late so I suppose I should let it slide (so long as she pays soon) considering how late she's been up to now! Money isn't affecting the budget anyway it's all earmarked for savings now :)

Uh-oh whilst I've been on here for all of 10 minutes the sky has gone grey and overcast :( arghhhhhhhh! Think I may be ordering that airer sooner than I hoped.............

I'm quite intrigued by this airer, does it plug into the wall?
