Good morning all, i'm sorry I haven't been here in a while! Well lots has happened since I was last on. I've not moved yet (let's get that one out of the way :rotfl:) I'm still determined to go though so that's being worked on!
DS1 has finished school :T he's had prom, leaver's assemblies, end of term parties (i've been taxi!) erm he's had induction days, he's been up to our new town twice on his own on the train (cue me spending the entire day panicking hoping he got the right connections - he was fine!) and i've also got him into a good school down here in case the move doesn't happen quick enough!
DD has turned 7. DS2 is 6 in 2 weeks and both have had taster days in the their new classes (DD will be moving up to junior so has been to the new school here) i have secured them places in the new town too so i've both bases covered!
I've been totally stressed one day, totally not bothered about anything the next (no change for me then) and although we've not secured a new house yet i'm still very hopeful.
I've finished Konmaring my home totally and it looks good and is much easier to clean. I had a real problem with picking dd birthday presents though as I know she doesn't like toys really so I didn't want to buy things just because she needed a present. I ended up getting her two pairs of shoes, some pretty clothes & a new scooter & pair of roller blades (in blue as they are a joint present for her and Ds2). she had a few books and that was it (aside from what others bought which I can't really control). Their birthday party is on Saturday and we have paid half of that already.
I really can't get to grips with this new forum layout and it's taken me ages to find this post where is the user control button located now?? I'm not sure I will be able to catch up with everything i've missedso I hope you've all been well and good?? That'll have to do for now as ds1 is bugging me about another lift to a friend's house

Haha lucky! Yes you would as I'm always on FB
I forgot to say too that DH has been promoted so now more than ever is a good time to leave as he's been booked on to courses here there and everywhere over the next year so won't be home much!
After I was on here yesterday I got a letter from our LEA about DD's school place, they've basically taken our place away from us down here so that we can have our school in the new town confirmed!! cue a little panic now as this means we HAVE to move out of here now so we're trying to hurry along things at the moment!
Kids break up next Wednesday so I've a few more days of peace and quiet leftwe've been out shopping today for bbq stuff for the family BBQ were having on Sunday. Spent a small fortune which I'm not overly impressed about!
Lucky will try to catch up with you later, school run now but I'm feeling so out of the loop on here now I'll spend forever trying to catch up! Hope Mr lucky and you have been well?? Hi DFW
Great to see you back. Sounds like you have had a very busy time lately.
I know what you mean about the new forum layout, I am resisting and i'm still on the old style
I am sure things will slot into place with the move soon. Keep hunting xxxx0 -
Hi DFW,
Sounds like you've been busy! I think I must have missed all this about the new town, is it far from where you are now?
Im also still on the old style forum, don't like change!!!

Hi DFw, :hello:
Great to 'see' you, especially as your plans are obviously moving forward apace!
Time to head up to the new place and find somewhere to live before next term, eh? Rent or buy, it definitely sounds like Fate is pushing you to move now.. Best of luck with your search, we'll all be sending positive vibes (and presumably DH's promotion means you can up the budget a bit so there will be more properties which you can consider?).0 -

Hey all! Sorry I am really slack. Our laptop takes so long to load up I just don't use it any more....that includes my beloved ynab too . I really need to get back to using it!
So since I last posted we've paid for the car insurance for the year, and then straight away decided to get rid of the car (duh, we don't like to make things easy for ourselves do we). We realised the MOT was due next week and we need a whole host of things doing to make it pass. The alarm broke for good a few weeks back, the steering thing (it's hard to turn?) went, lots of niggly little (expensive?!) things in the engine needed fixing and we just thought, let's cut our losses here and buy another run around. So I borrowed money from the house saving fund, £1500 to be exact. We got an 8 year old car as opposed to a 15 year old one (poor old volvo) with a smaller engine (1.5 instead of the 2.5 volvo) and it's diesel rather than petrol and it's tax is £30 a year as opposed to nearly £30 a month. We bought new tyres a few months back so a bit gutted we're losing out really but in the long run it will be much cheaper. We've scrapped the volvo, got £130 (boooo) and i'm going to send off the green slip and hope we get some money back for tax as it's due end of september so if they receive it before August we may get 2 months worth. If they !!! about it will be one month. The mileage on the new car is 50,000 miles whereas the volvo is 148,000 miles too.....When you look at it on paper it's a no-brainer! The new car has some bumper damage where the previous owner has reversed into something, but it's not affected the driving so we didn't mind and when we checked online the car is worth £1,000 more without the damaged bumper so we've saved a bit of money with the dent! We'll see how much it is to get fixed but we may just leave it. When we move this will be DH's main car as it will be super cheap to get him home every weekend. I will then get another run about with hopefully a bigger boot space & a tad more room inside for the kids lol.....Gotta learn when to cut your losses I say and although hubby is sad I think we've done the right thing!
So aside from that and end of term madness I've not done much. I've had another clear out on kids clothes (2 bin liners for charity...kids grow too quick!) and books (100 off to charity along with 3 board games!). Waiting to hear back from estate agent hopefully early this week regarding the move. DH was working up in the new town last week strangely enough although he's never been sent there before, he was talking to some civilian workers in the RAF base and was basically offered a job because of his rank (NEW rank :T) and his particular skill set in the army :T it's £10k more a year and it's 5 miles from where we're looking to live......fate? Coincidence? He's staying put for now and the man told him to get in touch when he was looking to leave to see what they could do for him! I told him he should get a year under his belt as his new role first but ultimately it's up to him and i'm so pleased there are jobs out there for what he does now which he thought was ultra specialised and wouldn't be any use out in the real world
P/s can someone tell me how to get the old forum back i am really struggling with finding anything on here, I don't even remember changing it to the new one?MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. Hi DFw, :hello:
Fate really is giving you a shove towards moving, isn't it (DH's probable future job in new area)! :T
Sounds like changing car was actually a bit of a wrench, but given the mileage you've probably just saved yourself loads of £££ [and hassle] by avoiding the old one falling apart while you're driving it.
