  • Ok so I found the pin on p1nterest and went through the list (it's huge on first glance ) and I was quite surprised that as I went around doing certain categories I had already ticked off a lot :j

So next on my list (or should I say the rest of the list......):
    • loose receipts
    • phone accessories
    • spare cords
    • craft supplies
    • wool
    • threads
    • storage containers
    • house plants
    • baking pans
    • baking accessories
    • mugs
    • vases
    • water bottles
    • plates & bowls
    • knives
    • small appliances

I bought that new pan rack and it's great :T no more bending over to get pans out every 2 mins and it looks good on the kitchen work top. I have the old pan cupboard now being used as the dog cupboard and all of his stuff is in two boxes in there. Whilst I was redoing that cupboard I had ticked off lots of categories as I had a sort through a lot of utensils & old cooking pans etc :T I also did all the trays and got rid of broken ones (that's not on the list). They don't all fall out now so it's great. the only thing I now seem to be lacking in my house is a small utility cupboard to put our mops & hoover.

Since starting this process I have been amazed. I thought the KM folding was a little OTT if I'm totally honest but I stuck with doing everyone's cupboards, well by everyone's I mean mine & dd & ds2. ds1 didn't want his doing! So one of my biggest problems pre KM was always the washing, doing it and putting it away. So i think the warmer weather has helped with me catching up, BUT the biggest change is......the fact the clothes go away in actual drawers on the day they've been cleaned and dried  usually they sit in my room in two HUGE washing baskets and I only ever put them away when we've run out of underwear or I really need the wash basket downstairs :o. Since doing the clothes and not being so overwhelmed by so many clothes I have been happily folding and putting them straight away  I'm amazed. Obviously i'm still new to it so this could all wear off, but I totally hope it doesn't!!!

Another big change.......My living room! I used to always always be picking things up and cursing at things. I got rid of a table (just a side one ) all the kids toys (now in their room in new storage) and I did shuffle the furniture about, but I also took the tv off the wall so actually losing floor space not really gaining it. But somehow I have made more space by actually clearing the paperwork, getting rid of a few dvds, and the small table and just generally having everything have a HOME! That's what was missing before!! I just didn't have homes for everything! So now everything, down to the cellotape & stapler have a home :). And it's paying off. I actually put it away straight away, because I know where it belongs. Before it would sit on a surface and if guests came round a drawer would be opened and everything swept in to it :o. I have got rid of a few ornaments too and knick knacks which have sold very well on FB selling groups :) I practically made my money back on most of those bits. So anyway there was a point...I made such a difference in the front room that I felt brave enough to take down the nets. I hate nets and they remind me of my nans house. I put them next to the back door, just in case I decided I didn't like people nosing in as they walk past. That was over a week ago. They've not gone back up i'm pleased to report and today I threw them away (they were well past their best). It makes my room look bigger, brighter and nicer without them and my front room is never embarrassing any more so I know that if the odd person did nose in I wouldn't really care any more :T what a change!

So tomorrow before the MIL gets here I shall try and get some of those smaller KM categories done :) I am determined to see it through to the end, how could I not after all the great stuff that it's brought me so far :T. I now have 2 empty wash baskets, 3 plastic containers & 3 wicker baskets, all empty too sat waiting to be repurposed or rehomed :) it's great!

    • loose receipts
done -ongoing job obviously though, and boring :p
    • phone accessories
    • spare cords
    • craft supplies
    • wool
    • threads
    • storage containers
    • house plants got rid of all the dead ones and have put a few on probation too ;)
    • baking pans
    • baking accessories
    • mugs
    • vases
    • water bottles done threw one out that always leaks.
    • plates & bowls done, we don't have enough as it is :rotfl: so couldn't do much with this one for now, it's all in the same place though and clean so all good
    • knives again we haven't got many, i throw these out as they get ruined.
    • small appliances

Did a few things on the list and hoovered/mopped downstairs and have one wash on the line. Also rearranged a few kitchen sides to make it easier to do things. The kettle was near the cooker but ds1 always wants a cup of tea whilst I am cooking dinner  so he can do that now as it's on the furthest counter away from the cooker :rotfl: makes sense really. I have had it there before but that counter seems to be the "junk collecting" area and so I moved the kettle to allow for the junk :o:o (can't believe i'm saying that :o). Need to hoover upstairs yet and take the dog out for a walk and that's my chores done for today. I'd really like to get a few more areas done and sorted and cleaned but MIL hasn't rung yet but i'm sure she'll be on her way soon so I best take the dog out rather than making chaos in the livng room with another category :rotfl: I've slowly moved all the kids pictures that i've found all over the place (in cupboards mainly!) that aren't on display, upstairs. That will be last thing I sort through. I have way too much of it all :o !! I am planning on keeping lots though unfortunately for KM, I will put it in suitcases under my bed. I came across ds1's work from year 2 (DD is in that year now) and it was so sweet, it was his holiday diary and he talked of going to london to visit friends and family and what he did and I could've cried. :o. I am far too sentimental :rotfl: or just plan old MENTAL :D

Should be a NSD too today, no planned spends anyway?! Do need petrol at some point though. hmm yes if I have time I may actually divert and get some after/before swimming as it's cheaper up that way :)

    Hope everyone is well :)

As always you have been so busy and you're doing really well. Amazed at how much stuff you've shifted.

What an amazing few posts of stuff done. This KonMarie method really really does work. When you read the book she actually makes so much SENSE even with her hilarious way of thanking everything for a job well done, not to mention touching things to impart energy :rotfl: to allow clothes to live longer. But on the whole she is fab and you seem to have the very basic principle perfect. As she says... once you have gotten rid of the stuff you won't want that doesn't bring you joy, and you give everything a HOME... then it just becomes an act of putting things back into their homes. And that is a very acceptable thing to do on a daily basis as and when you use things :)

I hope you are ok. Been quiet! I wondered where you had gone but I have been the same so pot/kettle and all. Only just getting to the bottom of the catch up list of diaries hence how I am here so late! :)

    Big hugs! xx

  • Good morning! I am here Lilt, just. The MIL nearly finished me off over the weekend. I now have MIL hangover and brain ache . I spent waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much (well over £200). She bought lunch on Friday so that was a cheap day but Saturday we went to town and I bought n@ndos for my lot and me and she paid for her & the grandchild she bought over (same age as DD so she thinks she must bring her everytime she comes which results in more stress for me as I get to look after her ) then we went to find ds1 a prom suit. Bless him he opted for a suit in H & M because it was cheap, but it was ill fitted and didn't do anything for him it made him look like a middle aged man  so I took him over to top man and he found one he'd secretly been coveting online :T it was three times the cost of the one in h& m :eek: but he looked very nice in it so I said he could have it. He was very pleased and actually cracked a smile for me and a thanks. The staff very nearly had to call the ambulance for me because I thought I was having heart failure at a thankful 16yr old son . The trousers we managed to get 20% off too as they were ever so slightly snagged and they didn't have any more in ds1's size. I would rather have had the perfect trousers if i'm honest but they said they couldn't order any more in so we took them with the discount.
On Sunday i cooked a roast dinner only for the kids' cousin to turn round and tell me she hates brocolli, cauliflower & chicken :( Then when I dished it up MIL tells me "ooooooh who do you think you're feeding the five thousand, I couldn't possibly eat all this" (she's posh she really did say that in a posh voice). So by this point I sort of snapped and said, "fine, leave what you don't want I will throw it away" *sigh*. She ate it all with no problems.

The cousin did not sleep at night either, we have a spare pull out bed and I made it for her for her to disturb my two and then come stomping down the stairs, looking down her nose at me ( I kid you not) to declare, "I am not going to sleep, i'm not tired and I want to watch tv". Gobsmacked. MIL told her "ok, come sit with me". No telling off and saying that's hardly fair on the other two. I really really am starting to detest MIL bringing her every time. She's a spoilt little brat who gets her own way everytime on everything and it makes my two misbehave. She also told me what to do with my life, i/e stay here in this house for 3-4 more years, get a job and then buy a house off a council estate (which at the moment is all we can afford, something on an estate). I'm pretty fed up to say the least. I even deactivated my FB account so I could get away from DH's family for now. I've honestly had too much!

Monday I spent all day in aftermode of them leaving feeling stressed. They totally trashed my house too and I spent all weekend picking up after them . F*****ed off to say the least!!!!

House has been put back to normal now, I have borrowed £100 from emergency funds to pay for the suit plus money from the main account was used that had sort of been earmarked for savings. No savings hardly this month but i've paid for ds1's rugby dinner on Friday, his suit for prom and a few other extras. I am waiting for a refund from sp*rts direct to hit my account too.

ynab is way behind as i've not switched on the laptop.

DH is home either this weekend or Monday next week. Depending on flight cancellations & delays. I'd like to get the house finished by then but I'm not sure if I will have time. I think I do, when I think of rooms, I just have the top shelf of the kids wardrobe to sort through (not entirely sure what is up there :o I can't reach it so most of it tends to me clutter or something dh has put up there). I also have under my bed (sorted through 25% maybe just quickly last week.) Also have the under the stairs cupboard in the front room and that is it. Then the kitchen, which I have kind of been doing slowly as i'm using things and going in cupboards I am having a quick sort through so when I get to those areas it will be much quicker.

Suppose I ought to get a cup of tea and decide if I am going to actually do some today! :rotfl:

Just did a long post then pressed the wrong button and somehow brought up a chana masala recipe website instead and lost the post.

Am so depressed I am off to sulk. Back later though. xx

  • Lol lilt! I did a similar thing this morning on your diary :rotfl: well today's plans went out the window I ate, did some jobs and went to bed at 10:50 and was asleep around 11am ;) I obviously needed it as I didn't wake up till 2:12 in a panic ha! So I've had some tomato soup and feel ready for the school run now! In a much better mood too so I was clearly tired from the weekend :p x

Obviously MIL from hell wore you out!! Glad you were sensible enough to go and sleep it off though. I've done the same before.

What I said earlier was my sister had the exact same problem with her MIL bringing her other granddaughter who only lived 5 minutes from her and saw her every day, to her few monthly visits to see my sisters son. Eventually my sister and her other half put it to the MIL that she got enough time with S but never saw my nephew on his own for quality time. She stopped bringing her then as they have cried favourites often enough over visits to lapland for one grandchild and not the other and so on. It isn't fair on your kids... nor is it fair on you. I have to plan carefully to encompass meals and buying food to cover my mum and dad. I would be less than thrilled if I had to stretch that to a fussy 6 year old and find her a bed and all the subsequent issues thereafter. And the preferential treatment... gah. Only grandparents :eyeroll:

Big hugs to you :) xx

    Evening DFW,

Glad you're ok after a snooze today!!! I did have to laugh at you saying the staff had to call an ambulance re you having heart attack over DS thanking you :rotfl:. Im glad DS is pleased, bless him choosing the cheaper suit though!!!

I would agree with Lilt as I was thinking the same whilst I was reading. MIL needs to leave [STRIKE]brat[/STRIKE] sorry granddaughter at home as she clearly sees her more than enough and should be spending her time with your children.

Glad she's gone home for now though!!! xx
