  • Afternoon all. Had another busy day here tidying & decluttering. I did the kids clothes today. I was quite ashamed to see just how many things the kids have. They had more clothes than me and considering theirs need replacing every few years it made me feel like i'd wasted an awful lot of money :( ...Lots were donated to us via older nephews and nieces but there was an awful lot that I had bought. So we were pretty ruthless even though I felt huge guilt at throwing any out because of the money i'd spent and also the fact they were hardly worn :( The kids didn't like them though so they went. I've put a huge pile up for sale and lots are ready to go to charity shop. I took 2 big bags to them today but i'd run out of bags so had to buy some more. One large bag is sat next to the back door. If this pile doesn't sell that will be another large bag to go :o. I didn't think I was a hoarder, but having this clear out has made me think, perhaps I am. I've put up for sale a shelf ..that i took down from my room as after the clear out I didn't need it :T It was just full of "stuff" most of which went in the bin! Also some radiator airers which I loathe. They make my house look so messy! I've done the bottom of the kids wardrobe too so they moved lots of shoes which were cluttering up downstairs back upstairs. I've noticed as i'm doing this Kon mari that other areas are becoming clearer as i'm putting things back in their place as I get to that category :T. I also found a bag of shoes for ds2 :T my SIL had given them to me last summer and he's just coming into that size. If I hadn't had the clear out I wouldn't have found them until I either moved or until ds2 was probably grown out of them :o.

So I did the dvds already as that's where I started on my clear out. I'm tempted to do the books but I have some in the loft, some in the garage and some all over the house :o

Not a NSD as I had to buy bin bags and I also got some bird food in the shop too so spent around £3 :)

  • Happy Easter MSE Friends

I hope you're all having a lovely chocolate fuelled morning :D My kids had run around the house and completed the Easter egg hunt by 8am this morning  The ds2 had a mini breakdown as he was so tired! He literally jumped (:j) out of bed screaming "It's EAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASTER" :rotfl: crazy child!!

So this morning my friend messaged me about a few things I had for sale and asked if she could have them.......errrrrr YES! I told her not to worry about paying, they were only 50p each as I just wanted them out of the house but to go to someone who needed them :T so I will put those aside for her when I see her. As i've been walking around my house I keep seeing things that don't spark joy. And then I had a realisation as I sat with my cup of tea........most things I have bought or that I have in my home are OLD. Lots of antiques but also lots of "just old & tired" stuff as i tend to buy second hand from boot fairs and charity shops etc as we never had the money....so I didn't always love the pieces I just needed them. What if I were to get rid of everything I didn't like........my house would be bare :rotfl: so I guess I must look at it practically too and keep what sparks joy because It has a practical use (even though it might be ugly...) DH will come home to an empty house...i wonder if he will notice though ;)

SO today, I have roast gammon that needs cooking (I bought a huge one hoping there is leftovers for tomorrow's dinner :money:) and not much else.....dog walk, washing clothes but I decided against going out. I searched for a good easter egg hunt locally on the NT website and the nearest one was an hours drive away :( and it would have cost me around £15 to do it as well as the petrol and food/snacks out. Decided to just stay put, luckily my kids aren't too bothered. I'll take them to the park later to run off the chocolate though

I hope you're all having a lovely easter and are spending it with family :A

Emerging from lurkdom to wish you a very happy Easter too. The sun is shining and spring flowers in my garden are looking so pretty and cheerful:D

I find the Kondoing thing really interesting and quite energising in a way that no other de-hoarding attempt has been, but for me the sparking joy thing can only apply to excesses of anything. As you say we have to have all the practical kitchen, household and garden tools and appliances, joy doesn't come into it, however if something does not work properly or is difficult to use or is something that we have not used for years that is a different matter.

I have lots of towels and tea towels, far too many for day to day use, but I am not going all minimal and throwing them, only to have to re-purchase in the future, it eventually dawned on me that if I had a selection of the older ones at the front of the cupboard and put the better ones at the back, we could wear some of them out properly and then replace from stock.

Roast gammon sounds lovely, haven't done that since Christmas, must add to shopping list:)

Have a great day, hope the children don't get too hyper on the chocolate.:(

  • Happy Easter DF(w)!!

My lot were up at 7am this morning excited to start the trail that the Easter Bunny had laid! Lovely to see :D.

You have inspired me to start clearing out again. I'd put it on hold while the kids were off, thinking they'd just see loads of stuff they'd forgotten about and insist on keeping it! However, I'm sure there are things I can sort through that they won't be interested in!!

    Have a great day Xx

  • Hello all :D

Well I took the kids out in the end it was too nice a day to waste indoors. We went to a lovely spot we usually visit in Summer because the kids swim in the river and get in the blow up boat we have....too cold for that but we got there and they had an Easter egg hunt on :T Parking was free for NT members :T so I only paid £2 for the easter egg hunt (just for ds2, DD & DS1 didn't want to do it) it was quite fun and everyone enjoyed it. Then we had a wander around their rspb garden and up and down the lanes. I had brought snacks and drinks although ds1 tried to get a coffee out of me I said no ;) the queue for the tea room was too long anyway! We got home just after lunch and I said to the kids we couldn't go to the park as I had to put dinner on. Well DS1 said "you go and i'll peel everything". You nearly had to pick me up off the floor I was that shocked :rotfl: So off we scuttled before he changed his mind :rotfl:.

So kids are quite worn out (they never truly seem to lose their energy?!) and chilling out with a game and The Goonies (love that film ) and dinner is on :T I'm starving so I hope it comes out nice :D

In my decluttering i'm becoming more ruthless, i've put up for sale some storage baskets (this is a big  I never sell storage in fact i'm always buying more :o) and a stool that I had kept because it looks useful and I may need it at some point :rotfl:

I will be back later but need to sort dinner out :D

Sounds like you had a lovely day DFW321 - I really miss the Easter egg hunt days - We always went to a NT place and did the trails:)
How lovely that DS1 did all the prep - had a similar surprise today - I had to ask her but I was amazed today DD made the roast just with some minimal guidance from me :)

Am impressed with your de-cluttering efforts - I made a start on one of the kitchen cupboards today found six half used out of date packs of filter coffee on the top shelf - the one I can't reach and don't use:D - need to look up if I can use ground coffee on the roses the same way as tea leaves .......or perhaps I should just bin it :o

Enjoy the rest of your weekend:)

    Sounds like a fantastic day.

I work in a school so don't spend much on my clothes as they get glued and painted on so I get mine from everything5pounds.com

talking of Tea towels!!! I had *drum roll please* 25 of them :eek::eek: HOW??????? No wonder I could never shut the drawer properly :o:o (hello "hoarder alert" anyone???) So I had been buying new to replace ones with holes that were practically rags and then keeping those rags in case I needed them :eek: to be fair I did use them all but no wonder my washing machine is always on! I was using them on spillages like a dozen at a time :o. So I purged. The ones with holes have been used to wrap up fragile items for the charity shop (more on that later) and i've kept only a couple of rags for spillages so I don't ruin my new ones :T

The gammon was HUGE and delicious :) we're having it cold later with salad and Jackets for dinner :T

I did the kids clothes/shoes/toys & books with them so I knew what they wanted and didn't want. I thought it would be a battle but actually I found they were happy to throw everything out aside from their favourites  In fact I will admit that I took some stuff out the "charity shop pile" and put them back as I thought they were too nice :o:o Now i've written that down I am realising I have turned into my mother (how the hell did that happen without me realising :o ) and perhaps I should go back and throw away what they didn't want (by throw away I mean charity or recycling I hate throwing to landfill )
Have a great time de cluttering your house :T It feels good letting it all go!

NOA must be something in the air! My ds1 even helped me do the living room last night  I am dreading the kitchen especially as everything tends to fall out on my head every time I open a cupboard I just know that will be a long job. Hopefully not a sentimental one though as who could be attached to a potato masher???:rotfl:
