Sending you and your family lots of hugs at this time :grouphug::grouphug:

  • DFW I'm so sorry about about your Dad, you will be able to make the decision about when to tell the children once you know more details.

When DH grandad was diagnosed with leukemia we just told our children he had poorly legs at first and that the doctors needed to check them, until we knew more about the situation and how serious it was. But My 2 were quite young at the time (5 and 6) so it was abit easier to hide it from them.

My thoughts are with you all, take care .x.
  • So sorry to hear the dreadful news about your Dad. Fingers crossed its one of the 'kinder' cancers. Whatever toe it is, they're making advances all the time.

Oh DFW I'm so terribly sorry to hear about your dad.

I agree with your decision not to tell DS at the moment. Its always a very hard decision to make what to tell and what not to tell. Its hard work trying to keep happy and jolly for everyone when you don't really feel it, I know that from experience sadly.

Sending huge hugs your way, you know where I am if you need a chat xx

  • Thank you all :grouphug: Well I have spoken to my step mum this morning and the MRI will be next week and the results the week after. They found a "large-ish" tumour and have offered RT or CRT depending on what the MRI says next week. Best news would be that they can operate straight away rather than doing the drugs then operation route. It's bowel cancer btw... He looked so ill when I saw him last I just knew something was wrong :(

I'm trying to stay positive, for one i've not told the kids so I don't want to be falling apart and them thinking . In my family the eldest child gets the job of passing along bad news to the rest of the family (That's me!!) so I spent a long time on the phone yesterday to siblings and my mum trying unsuccessfully to answer their questions. My sister was very blaise about it all (perhaps shock) and I had to restrain myself from arguing with her over her attitude.

Anyway I am going to keep busy and keep my mind off of it, my worrying won't be any help! This morning I walked the dog for an hour and half with a friend so I wouldn't be left to my thoughts. I'm on here now and then I intend to meditate for an hour and then it will be school run time. Only one day to pay day now! I finally last night got my rental money. It was only £230 :( i've paid the credit card that I used at the weekend (I forgot to bring my debit card out so had to use it :o balance should be zero on that again now) after paying that I moved everything left to the emergency funds. I could have paid it to the isa to get to the magic £10k but I will leave that for May's money I think. Emergency funds are back up near £600 so that's not bad considering I had all the vet fees and expense of changing his foods again :)

Thank you C-R :) I am along the same lines of thinking. I will see what the MRI says and how advanced it is before telling DS1. I think by then he may have done the exam anyway but as he's doing it a year early anyway (he's in yr 10) I should think he can just take it next year alongside others. No idea how far along it is until mid may i think when we'll get more info. I'm shocked at how slow the process is tbh :( I can't believe he has to wait one week for each appointment.

My younger two are similar ages -4&5-- and I just don't know what I would say if it came to the worst...DS1 being 15 will take it hard, I know he will hence me holding off just in case it's not worst case scenario and chance of recovery is strong.

Thank you :grouphug: It is very hard trying to keep positive esp when i'm usually in pieces at news like this. It's certainly a good lesson for me that's for sure :undecided

:kisses3: Thank you. It doesn't help that I don't have any close friends near by to call on in times of need. I wish all my friends on here lived closer by ;) xxxx

  • I would like to add some good news though, I think it's a good idea to focus on the positives.

DS1 was asked to put an application in for Sept to be a prefect in yr 11 :) I helped him (actually I wrote all of it :o) write his application yesterday after he tried to do one and talked himself down all the time. I wrote one which focused on the positives (much like this post ;) ) and ignored the negatives!

I did get rent money even if it wasn't quite what I was hoping for. Next month's rent should be the full amount now as they've obviously finished charging me for all the small jobs that were done :)

My shoulder is not as bad as yesterday thanks to resting it and probably the drugs :rotfl: I got a much better night's sleep and only woke once because of it so that's good.

I will think of more positives and perhaps be back ;)

So very sorry to hear about your dad, hopefully the MRI will bring some reassuring news. Sending lots of good thoughts and virtual hugs. In some ways virtual friends can be better than real-life ones as there will always be someone here for you whenever you want a rant or a shoulder to cry on. :grouphug:
