  • I have reported this to the actionfraud line as a victim. Surprisingly I seem to be the first to have done so as they had no other reference to Smartsource. They asked me to post the reference on the discussion thread so here it is: NFRC131000399944.
Smartsource have made no payments to South West Water on my behalf since March which seems to be the general pattern.
Begs the question why the water companies didn't smell a rat and take some action. They can't hide behind confidentiality clauses if they suspected fraud. If they didn't they shouldn't be in business.
My account from South West Water shows Smartsource were paying £44 per month against my payment of £36.20, which begs another question - how could they have made any money other than by fraud?
I was put in touch with Smartsource by an agency called MakeItCheaper who look for utility and other deals for small businesses. I have asked them what due diligence they carried out before their recommendation and why they didn't notice irregularities earlier.
  • Me too just spoken to actionfraud line as a victim, no payments to Thames Water since March

I live in Reading and have worked at their offices,(they also owe my work £1100 for work done in one of their offices)

I found out yesterday about this, as I was in fountain house(smartsource water office) on another floor and someone told me they had gone bust!!

Popped round today to there warehouse all shut up no one around!!
  • Strange - I have never seen a thread with so many first time posters !!!

Don't blame MakeItCheaper, I looked into this company in detail, I actually looked at it for 6 months before my friend signed up! Their credit rating was always at least Good but normally Very Good and I can't believe it has changed so quickly.
Signed up in April... no payments made to United Utilities now owe £2,900 but what is worse is that I have passed SSW details onto other business friends who have also signed up:(

i hope the two directors are taken to task.... ie fraud.

However i imagine they have bunked the country with all the money.
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?
  • Thanks for the fraud line number. I have had to pay three months to Northumbrian Water. They had contacted me after the second month of non-payment but I allowed myself to be reassured by Smartsource staff and allowed the third DD to be taken. Fortunately, I did then cancel when my water company contacted me again and then I took things more seriously. I'll phone the number now.
  • United Utilities reckon I owe them hundreds of pounds. SSW did not pay them after Feb 2013 - but UU didn't tell me till October. Great eh? Don't they have ANY responsibility, e.g. a duty to alert me? Also, UU's earlier accounting records show that SSW paid them the full monthly amount when I was paying the discounted price every month - why would SSW do that? Or did UU have a business relationship with SSW - something they consistently deny?
  • Now UU have increased my monthly payments so that they recover all (what they regard as) outstanding sums over the next 12 months. Doesn't anyone agree with me that these Water Companies should / must have some responsibility in this mess? They let my account go unpaid for many months (9 or 10 from memory), all of which I was oblivious to - as I was paying SSW.
  • ...some months ago?

I live in a Hanover Housing flat in Leeds and we have only just learned that our former CEO Bruce Moore, his crony director Tony Tench and prob. others, invested half a million in Smartsource, some time ago; all now lost of course. this was way beyond their remit and we want to know how much they got for this wholly questionable con-trick. they had skipped the company to Housing 21 long before things went publicly pear-shaped at Smartsource.

which police forces are looking at this matter? and is anybody in authority collecting names of victims? there would seem to be quite a need for this. how many Hanover tenants, for example, have been ripped-off by these crooks?

    regards,

    Dave Hutchinson, Leeds
