Oh and contact your union or the confidential employee advice service if you have one.

Just re-read your post - when you say you have the weekend to think about it, did they tell you what will happen on Monday eg. a scheduled meeting? I don't think you should go straight into a difficult meeting without advice or representation, and that doesn't leave you very long to find any.
There are some really good people over on the Employment board who may be able to advise further (but it does also have some ignorant know-it-alls, so I would recommend immediate use of the ignore button as needed).

OMG Shoe Gal
How utterly carp! I second Rosa's suggestion, if you're in a Union, contact them. They helped me out of a difficult situation at work a couple of years ago and I wouldn't be without my membership now.
Otherwise, again as Rosa suggests I'd post on the Employment board, but with use of the 'Ignore' button as necessary. There are some very helpful people over there, including some with legal experience, but also some who I'm sure just revel in others misfortune.
Hope you've got a glass of wine on the go and you're taking care of yourself

really sorry to hear this hun and echo what others say. see if you can get some advice on employment board. it has only been a short while but is there are anyone there that you trust that could attend the meeting with you when it is scheduled if you dont have a union rep etc...? if it is something you did, do you know why it happed? eg as others said it is an area that you need training in? have you already asked for training in this area? not fair for you to be blamed for something outside your control:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j0

popping out of lurkdom to offer some support
so sorry to hear about this. as others have said, if you are still new then they are under an obligation to you to make sure you know what you are doing and aren't left in a position where this kind of thing can happen.
I've made a couple of BIG mistakes at work on the financial front - every bit of me wanted to run away and hide, but I was very fortunate and had some great support from my bosses at the time who listened when I told them exactly what had happened and how, and they (rightly) shouldered their share of the blame.
Both times it exposed some significant weaknesses in the systems in place and things changed so it couldn't happen again.
It also made me a lot more careful to check and re-check my work and this was a hard but an important lesson for life!
Think about it over the weekend but please don't beat yourself up, it doesn't do anyone any good. Try and do something nice to lift your spirits too

Hi Shoegal, I also couldn't lurk with out commenting! I agree with the previous comments. In my experience, when something untoward happens in the workplace there are always a combination of factors, usually relating to systems rather than individuals, which lead to the end result. We have all made mistakes at work, including those who are currently giving you a hard time I'm sure! Stay strong xxxLBM early Jan 2013. Debt to clear at LBM (£25,804) £15,187. Hi sweetie,
sorry you're having to deal with this, I know nothing of legalities, but, you've not been there long, sounds as though you were left to your own devices, possibly too early and if you trust your gut instinct then you probably won't regret it.
Thinking of you
