Sure. But then wouldn't you expect it to actually do the update there and then...?

I still haven't added a secure key to my account. I wonder if I will be forced to at any point.
Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

OK, I have now tested using the app offline for a couple of weeks and my conclusion is - it never works the first time you try. Once you have used it with an internet connection, you can the turn the connection off and use it offline - but wait a few hours, try again and - you guessed it - you'll need an internet connection again. I am starting to think that this "update" that the app is asking for is in fact an integral part of their security design. So much for the statement on their website that
You do not need internet or phone signal to be able to use the Digital Secure Key
I think this design of theirs is pathetic. So disappointed, having thought well of FD for years.

I must be at the very end of their list as I haven't even been asked :rotfl:
Quite happy to carry on without one.

Santander have the best system imo. If you try to pay someone new they send you a text with a passcode, otherwise you can log in and bank unhindered.

This is what Citi do and it works well.

My secure key is not working properly due to a faulty button and is being replaced, the staff member informed me that First Direct have been declared as the most secure online bank due to using "secure key" by Which.

    ....

That gives Which? another opportunity to punt their FD referral link.

At least MSE declare that they get referral fees from FD, Which? don't.
