I've been offered even more money for the house from Buyer 2. I don't know what to do. Naturally, I want the money, it would be lovely to have extra money towards buying the Captain a field. But I feel guilty if I keep going from buyer to buyer.

The estate agent has suggested a contract war as my goal is to move as quickly as I can. I have explained to him that my finances are too tight hence the move and that I don't want to work nearly 70 hours a week to barely make ends meet.

I should be jubilant, but I'm not....

It's not your fault that this has come about is it though?
Just go with the flow & see what happens.
I'm sure will come to a conclusion soon.
To be able to buy The Captain a field would good.
    Bear that in mind.

  • contract war?

could you tell them both to just do sealed best and final offers with a timeframe that they will commit to, choose the best situation from those and that is end of. The one you choose must meet their stated timeframe or they start paying you costs ..? a la some house auction terms

That sounds like a veritable can of worms with the risk that one or both buyers will walk away and you'll be left without a buyer. I'd start by getting a definate completion date from Buyer 2 and go from there.

Is there a reason that Buyer 2 has offered more money now that you've accepted their offer? Is the Estate Agent playing games behind your back? Call me cynical but buyers don't normally make an offer and then increase it without prompting.

  • That's true, why is buyer two offering more if you have already accepted?

I know what you mean, you *should* be happy but I can completely understand how it all feels a bit Holy !!!! Batman can we just sort this out now!

So far you have done what you feel to be honourable - impressive by the way. I think continue to do that and hope it is sorted. How much do you trust the estate agent?

    Nevertheless she persisted.

I'm getting muddled, it's no wonder anyone else is too.

It's the other buyers who have offered more money than the buying price. The ones who had a buyer but it turned out that their buyer didn't have a mortgage offer in place. They now have a cash buyer.

The other buyer who offered the full price eventually after having lost out originally because they offered a really low price, has her dad buying the house for her. However, we haven't heard from them since we told them that the house was theirs, no sign of a survey or a request to come and see it again. Surely nobody buys a house and only views it once, and in the dark to boot. Then only sees it again when they move in??

I expect that's as clear as mud, I'm struggling with keeping up. I've asked the estate agent to chase up the silent buyer and explain that I'm in a position financially where I need to move quickly and if they can't do that then I will consider the over the asking price option.

Actually I'm really considering it, the amount they're offering is the cost of a field shelter/stable for the Captain......

    that does it for me!

I would have thought buyers would be round measuring up and stuff.. and just generally checking the place out.

It is a bit odd all this house buying stuff.

This is the English version, or Welsh at least ;) This is the wording from an advert for a house for sale in my town.
