Funnily enough the referendum has made me think a lot about my dad this week.
I miss him so much but would rather remember him as he was before & not latterly.

I'm guessing that Casper's white, what do I win? Welcome back, Piq, sorry to hear that all's not right in your world :(
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!
  • You've been through so much Piq these last few months, but I'm so glad to hear you are OK, you came into my mind so many times, wondering how you were, where you were. Glad you are back.

So sorry to hear about your dad, it must be so hard on your mum and you. All you can hope is that he snaps out of it at some stage and try to not let it get to you, i'm sure he doesn't mean to upset either your mum or you, he's probably just a little self-absorbed, feeling sorry for himself, which is understandable. It can't be easy being 85 nor going through the hip op or a broken leg at that age! A man needs to feel like a man and maybe that has been dented in his own mind at the moment, making him feel depressed and fed up.

Hello to Casper! at that age they are so very full of life and love, nurture him and he will love you forever. My Molly came to me when she was 8 weeks and she is like my cuddly shadow. She even comes to the bathroom with me every time I go and jumps in the sink to have a drink of water from the tap. Sticks her head under, balances herself on her right paw on back of sink and makes the most amusing noise as she glugs. I'd lasso the moon for her, I really would. Hubby now thinks he's lowest on the totem pole! (as if LOL) She helps me make the bed, all sorts of stuff. I'm sure Colin (who ate all the PIES!) will get used to her, they will eventually be friends. Nash hated Molly when she first came, now he tries to kill her only once a week or so, but Molly is a tough cookie and fights back LOL

Good to hear from you! Keep ya chin up girl, you're strong and amazing :)
  • YAY! Piq is back :j

Sorry to hear about your Dad - have some understanding of what you mean, as have had a very similar experience with my own in the past 18 months.
A man needs to feel like a man and maybe that has been dented in his own mind at the moment, making him feel depressed and fed up.

^ I have to say, I completely agree with this, unfortunately, my Dad had a problem that was *ahem* to do with the um, very article that 'being a man' is all about :o But I would say going from being an independent, vibrant, self-sufficient, stubborn sod (my dad) to lying in a hospital bed (very much against his wishes) seemingly *helpless*, being prodded, poked and ignored by a whole raft of strangers was the catalyst for him becoming morose, niggly, down about the world and a burden on my mother - who frankly, worried herself sick over it all. A relative who was a nurse (fierce Sister - in the days they were fierce) diagnosed depression in him too. The good news is that he has come out the other side, I'll be honest though, it has taken over a year :( But he is something like back to 'normal' and is leading an active life again - and we're getting to eat the produce from the allotment :D The thing is, I can't let you know what the 'catalyst' for this change was - I rather suspect it just dawned on him that he was making himself and everyone else miserable and it was up to him to change. Plus he is stubborn (did I mention that?) and he was probably fed up of us 'amateurs' having a go at looking after his allotment - although he 'let' me dig it all over before winter first..........:rotfl:

Oh, and if it is any consolation, my Dad has had both hips done, and as I'm sure you know - there is life after hip replacement surgery :D He was a pita about that too - couldn't wait to get out of hospital - and it was a lovely hospital, with fantastic, knowledgeable, caring staff! Stubborn *thing*...... :rotfl:

Great to *see* ya - looking forward to *critter tales* in the future :D

Great to see you back Piq! How I've missed your way with words. You have a wonderful writing style which gives me mind pictures of your animals and their doings. So thanks for posting.
I am so sorry that life has been so miserable and exhausting for you and I hope that your dad manages to find some joy in his life again. You often used to talk about going for coffee with him. Would that be a possibility?

  • ... and a great big WELCOME BACK from me too. You (and your animal tales) were greatly missed. In your postings there is the same humour coming through still. Take care of yourself and I wish you well in the coming months. You have had lots of changes in the last year so you need to take a little time for yourself. You deserve it - and I look forward to hearing about you and your animals in the future.
  • Lovely to have you back, sorry to hear about your dad and hope he soon gets back to his old self again. Sounds like you have been busy with parents and pets, not surprised you have not felt like being on the forums, but nice to have you back :)
