I am touched by how many of you have missed me. Thank you.

It's been a funny old time recently and I just mentally haven't been able to speak to friends real or virtual. Somehow just slogging through the days has been hard enough.

My Dad had a hip replacement back in the summer. Not only did they replace his hip but they replaced my Dad with the grumpy version. He took a dislike to the physios and anyone else who dared suggest they knew what was good for him. Eventually, he was taken to one side by the ward sister and told he wasn't leaving until he was mobile enough to be self-sufficient. That worked and he progressed well and went home.

He then had a fall and broke his leg. To cut a very long story short it has taken all the stuffing out of him. He is grumpy and frail and takes it out on my mum. I've been going over every day to help keep things running. After a lot of discussion and arguing with Dad, we've finally got help going in and some of the stress removed from Mum. Not an easy time.

Dad still refuses to do anything, read, watch television, walk etc and claims he is losing his mind as all the days seem the same. My answer was that of course you're forgetful if you deliberately have nothing to remember  I have an 85 year old going on 2 on my hands.....

The boys are all well. The Captain managed to get a bit of sunburn on his pink nose and has had to wear a mask with a nose piece which he doesn't like at all. Noah is very sweet and tries to remove it for him at every opportunity

Colin is in trouble with the vet for being overweight. The vet doesn't understand about Colin's need for chicken pie next door every Friday :rotfl:My neighbour swears she isn't feeding him pie, but I'm not so sure.....

Anyway, Colin has acquired a little brother, Casper. Colin doesn't like his new brother and has perfected a haughty cat spit. Casper is around six months old and a stray. At the moment I have him in the spare bedroom until he is used to being indoors and Colin has, hopefully, accepted him. I hope he does, as I've not come across such a cuddly affectionate cat before.

I also seem to have responsibility for Roger the rooster down at the farm. Roger's job is to herd horses into the corner of their field. Terrifying things chickens.....I now feed him daily and chase him away from the horses. Roger's women lay scary eggs in the boys field. I always know where the eggs are as the Captain and Noah are shying away from them.

See life is still mad :rotfl:

I need to sort out my finances, the long days have meant I've just spent when I've needed to without necessarily checking out prices. I'm still debt free but in total chaos!

Marathon post and I haven't mentioned work! That'll be for another post I think.

good to know that you are ok (as ok as can be anyway) and that the boys are all thriving. So sorry about your Dad though, I can see that it must have knocked him for six, but must be so tiring for your Mum and you. The Marigolds in my Bee pot are coming to an end, sadly it will soon be time to put it away for the winter:)

Aw, so sorry to hear about your parents, but I'm glad you've got some help going in for your sake and theirs. Must be difficult all round.

Hooray for Casper though (Casper :D what an excellent name :D ) Hope Colin comes to appreciate him in time...

Thank goodness you are back Piq.

Sorry to hear things have not been well with your dad.
As soon as I read about what your dad was going through it reminded me of a newspaper article which talked about older people going under anaesthetic and the changes it caused. They interviewed some older people who have exactly the same symptoms as your dad and they all said they wished they hadn't had the op.

I can't find the exact article but this makes quite interesting reading (i'm not saying your dad has dementia but it does mention surgery affecting the mental health of older people) - http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/site/scripts/documents_info.php?documentID=1435

Hopefully your dad will improve with time and be back to how he was before the operations.

Glad that Colin has a potential friend - fingers crossed they start getting on.

And as for those cockerels and hens and those eggs :eek:

Hope the job is going well.

Oh your poor mum and you having to cope with such a change in your dad. It sounds to me that perhaps your dad is grieving for his mobility and has probably had a fright regarding his mortality. I hope he sorts himself out soon but am glad you've managed to persuade him that help is a necessity.

Hello :hello: to Casper, I hope Colin welcomes you soon.

I'm not surprised to hear you haven't felt up to speaking to friends Piq but am so glad you are ok. Remember to take the odd bit of time for you.

Glad Noah is looking after Captain well. LOL scary eggs x
