Funnily enough the referendum has made me think a lot about my dad this week.
I miss him so much but would rather remember him as he was before & not latterly.
Falling a lot so not quite at my best~stress city here at the moment.
    Ho hum.

I'm sorry you're not so good beanie. I hope you pick up soon.

I'm finding it hard to reconcile my Dad now to my Dad a year ago. Very difficult emotionally. :(

I'm guessing that Casper's white, what do I win? Welcome back, Piq, sorry to hear that all's not right in your world :(

What do you win? hmmm, me posting a picture of him here tomorrow?
You've been through so much Piq these last few months, but I'm so glad to hear you are OK, you came into my mind so many times, wondering how you were, where you were. Glad you are back.

So sorry to hear about your dad, it must be so hard on your mum and you. All you can hope is that he snaps out of it at some stage and try to not let it get to you, i'm sure he doesn't mean to upset either your mum or you, he's probably just a little self-absorbed, feeling sorry for himself, which is understandable. It can't be easy being 85 nor going through the hip op or a broken leg at that age! A man needs to feel like a man and maybe that has been dented in his own mind at the moment, making him feel depressed and fed up.

Hello to Casper! at that age they are so very full of life and love, nurture him and he will love you forever. My Molly came to me when she was 8 weeks and she is like my cuddly shadow. She even comes to the bathroom with me every time I go and jumps in the sink to have a drink of water from the tap. Sticks her head under, balances herself on her right paw on back of sink and makes the most amusing noise as she glugs. I'd lasso the moon for her, I really would. Hubby now thinks he's lowest on the totem pole! (as if LOL) She helps me make the bed, all sorts of stuff. I'm sure Colin (who ate all the PIES!) will get used to her, they will eventually be friends. Nash hated Molly when she first came, now he tries to kill her only once a week or so, but Molly is a tough cookie and fights back LOL

Good to hear from you! Keep ya chin up girl, you're strong and amazing :)

    Thank you suburbanwifey:)

Dad is from the generation where men were men and were head of the household. He finds it very difficult to be reliant on people for every day functions. But at the moment that's how it is. I understand why he's depressed and want so much to help him, but both he and Mum are against any Doctor's visits or help. Really caught between a rock and hard place on this.

Molly sounds delightful. I'm lucky in that I'm not accompanied to the bathroom :rotfl:

All I'm hoping for is that Colin will tolerate Casper. He's still not happy about it at all. However, he is eating (all the pies), coming to meet me from work (he waits at the end of the path for me) and still sleeps at the bottom of my bed.

Casper is still in the spare bedroom but I bring him into the living room in the morning and afternoon whilst Colin is still out and about in ColinWorld.

    YAY! Piq is back :j

Sorry to hear about your Dad - have some understanding of what you mean, as have had a very similar experience with my own in the past 18 months.

^ I have to say, I completely agree with this, unfortunately, my Dad had a problem that was *ahem* to do with the um, very article that 'being a man' is all about :o But I would say going from being an independent, vibrant, self-sufficient, stubborn sod (my dad) to lying in a hospital bed (very much against his wishes) seemingly *helpless*, being prodded, poked and ignored by a whole raft of strangers was the catalyst for him becoming morose, niggly, down about the world and a burden on my mother - who frankly, worried herself sick over it all. A relative who was a nurse (fierce Sister - in the days they were fierce) diagnosed depression in him too. The good news is that he has come out the other side, I'll be honest though, it has taken over a year :( But he is something like back to 'normal' and is leading an active life again - and we're getting to eat the produce from the allotment :D The thing is, I can't let you know what the 'catalyst' for this change was - I rather suspect it just dawned on him that he was making himself and everyone else miserable and it was up to him to change. Plus he is stubborn (did I mention that?) and he was probably fed up of us 'amateurs' having a go at looking after his allotment - although he 'let' me dig it all over before winter first..........:rotfl:

Oh, and if it is any consolation, my Dad has had both hips done, and as I'm sure you know - there is life after hip replacement surgery :D He was a pita about that too - couldn't wait to get out of hospital - and it was a lovely hospital, with fantastic, knowledgeable, caring staff! Stubborn *thing*...... :rotfl:

Great to *see* ya - looking forward to *critter tales* in the future :D

    Greying

Dearest greying, thank you so much for your heartening post :) So very appreciated.

Dad is refusing to have the second hip done at the moment, very frustrating, when it will give him mobility freedom again - sigh.....

Great to see you back Piq! How I've missed your way with words. You have a wonderful writing style which gives me mind pictures of your animals and their doings. So thanks for posting.
I am so sorry that life has been so miserable and exhausting for you and I hope that your dad manages to find some joy in his life again. You often used to talk about going for coffee with him. Would that be a possibility?
    V xx

I have actually forced him to come out for coffee :o Although he claims not to enjoy it as he is limited on how much liquid he allowed due to dialysis. There's no winning with him at the moment :)

Plenty of stories about the animals yet to come. They haven't stopped doing funny things just because I've been mse-awol :)

Lovely to have you back, sorry to hear about your dad and hope he soon gets back to his old self again. Sounds like you have been busy with parents and pets, not surprised you have not felt like being on the forums, but nice to have you back :)

Nice to see you too Februarycat

It's now my weekend :T I don't work Monday and Tuesday :T So I'm hoping to catch up on finances, admin and life in general.

Just had a text from DS2, apparently I am going to Glastonbury next year - Go me :rotfl:Well, I'm registered for a ticket anyway. DS2 has a stall there every year, so I'm going along too.

I'm off to have dinner before Casper wakes up and starts charging up and down the hall chasing his squeaky mouse and ping pong ball.

    Hopefully, be back later.

Sorry about this but the pictures of Casper will have to wait.

My phone died so I went for the upgrade and now I can't seem to get any of my apps back, my phone isn't speaking to my laptop and I'm confused. Admittedly, I haven't spent a great deal of time looking into it yet, but I will!

All I have done is chores, but not the ones I should, ie finances and admin. More like emptying and cleaning cat litter trays, stables, fields and a bit of vacuuming round the house.

Casper has just cost me £59 in vet fees, his first spending. He has a cat cold! He is a very affectionate cat and likes nothing better than to lie on my lap. Yesterday evening I was lying on the sofa watching television with Casper across my stomach asleep, and Colin asleep next to my head on the back of the sofa :D I am hoping this means that Colin is starting to accept Casper as his little brother....

Forgot to book my MOT it's due on 29th so am now getting it done on the day it expires, fingers crossed there are no problems. Yet more money out the purse :(

The horsey boys are enjoying the sunshine together and wander round the field together side by side. All too soon they'll have to come in of a night-time, but for now they're just wearing lightweight rugs overnight and remaining in the field.

When I took Casper to the vets I am sure Colin was doing a little jig of joy thinking Casper was finally leaving. Not too impressed when I bought him home....

Glastonbury? hmm, my picture that you have to submit on application got rejected for the following:
    - the photo is not of a person

    - the photo does not appear to match the gender of the name supplied

    - the photo is of a child who appears to be under the age required to register (13 and over)

    - the photo is too dark

    - the photo is too distant (your photo should be closely cropped of head & shoulders only)

    - the person's face is obstructed (by sunglasses, hat, or the person not facing forward, etc)

    - there is more than one person in the photo

    How insulting is that?

  • G'day Auntie Piq

So glad that you're back on here :D

So sorry for all the troubles that you've had in RL and just wondering if your local council offer a befriending service which would have someone sit with your Dad for a few hours so your Mum could get out or even a Day Centre. Really hope that things calm down for you soon.

Ooo jealous of you going to Glastonbury I've always wanted to go although :rotfl: at the picture rejections. Guess it'll be a few more years for me yet.

Really hope that the job is treating you well and loving the tales (tails??) of your boys and look forward to more stories.

Just a quick update from me, finished work now using holidays then mat leave from 20 October and due to gestational diabetes will be getting induced between 38 - 39 weeks so 4.5 weeks to go until we meet our little girl

Can't wait to hear more from you Piq, I've missed you xx
