Well, I got some Asda vouchers from work that I wasn't expecting, £330. So on my thread the other day I was saying how they would pay for the whole months shopping and petrol, and I would transfer our usual shopping and petrol money over to our 'saving up to pay off the car loan' account.

Or at least that was the plan......until we saw a dvd recorder (with hard drive) in Asda for £128.....and it just sort of fell into our trolley....... :o

We also splashed out on a new clothes airer, one of those things you sit a baby in to go in the swimming pool, some beer, wine and a bottle of vodka.....oh and some Nobbly Bobbly ice lollies!

And I've just had a chinese, and am now sitting here with a curly wurly.

Go on, tell me what a terrible person I am - I can take it....!!! :)

Thanks...but it's really quite bad lol!

Our shopping bill for the week was.........

    ......£270.27!!!!!

(Although to be fair, all we will need for the rest of the month is milk, bread, fruit and veg, so we will probably still be able to save a *bit* of money).

I do understand what you're saying Z, but as there is no chance we'll be affected by interest rates or banks, I can't see that it matters what the housing market is doing.

It's not really interest rates that I'd be concerned about - the Fed is very politically sensitive, so if you did go for a USD denominated mortgage, the interest rates would drop at the first sign of trouble.

It's more the other things like the insurance issue I touched upon earlier.

For example the dismal look of the states' finances - California especially, but Florida is not good either. Property taxes are levied as a percentage of the house value, and they are a significant earner for the states.

Forclosures: The developments have a certain amount of common land whose upkeep is paid for by the residents. If your neighbours foreclose - who pays entirely for that. Yes...you.

Quality: Houses over the past few years have just been thrown up (you thought this country was bad) - google for lennarr lawsuit for example. But it's not just them, it's everyone.

Needless to say, I've been looking at living abroad and have done far too much research... ;)

But, so long as you're not overstretched, and have a bit behind you, you should be able to afford to ride out any problems.

Toto - house sounds and looks lovely. Amazing price :D
Snaggles - I love those nobbly bobbly ice cream too. I am managing to stay off just now because of the offer on the skinny cow ones.:)

I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for decent scales that are reasonably priced? The ones I have just now vary by half a stone depending on where I put them on the bathroom floor :rotfl: .

Thanks everyone for the thread. Its the best diet thread I have seen becasue you are so real about everything.

    Morning.

Thanks for all the messaged yesterday. I finished work early and met my Mum in town. It wasn't good. I had no money for car parking (counldn't fine a free space) and some women had nearly crashed into me!! So I rang her sat in my car in tears.... :o

She then got the whole I have no money and shoes that hurt because they don't fit. 30 mins later, she has bullied me into letting her buy me 2 pairs in the sale :o Which I WILL pay her back, whether she likes it or not.

But food has been ok. I've not given into choclate and I get weighed tonight. Not sure if I've lost anything, but I have been really good, so we shall see.

    But today I am eating:

    Weetabix + skimmed milk
    Fruit and yogurts
    Crackerbreads and something
    Pasta with homemade sauce.

So hopefully will do ok today.

Thanks again, your wonderful people x

Toto - I am thrilled for you - I wish I had the oomph to do something like that!!!

I have to warn you. I am going to whinge.

My cold is still as bad and I feel exhausted, really exhausted. I know it's just viral but it is still a pain in the backside. I'm on a mixture of sudafed and benylin.

Yesterday I had made a major decision about my life and was on the point of going to the next stage.

And then......bringing in the washing, I fell down the stone steps from my garden. And hit the house at the bottom. My neighbour heard me and came to hear me whimper (whoops) and eventually I got up.

My knee and ankle are all cut and bruised and I've got bruises on my other leg. Across the bottom of my rib cage hurts where I hit some drainpipe. worst of all though is the top half of my arm. I hit it on the corner of the house (I must have flown some way!!) and it is a black and purple solid mass of bruising from the shoulder all down my inner arm.

Eating was difficult last night as I could hardly lift my arm and I hardly slept. I really wanted chocolate, or vodka, or both.......but I didn't have either and OH didn't make any 'I'll go and get you some' noises so I stayed without them.

    I'm a physical wreck.

On top of that I'm supposed to be going out tonight for a friend's dinner. I really don't feel like going.

And - I'm getting my hair cut and coloured today and i've been looking forward to it for a couple of weeks as I've decided to have different colours put through it for the first time in years.

Somebody put me in a bag and take me out for the bins..........
