Its not looking good for Microsoft Security Essentials, as it does not look like its a new batch going round.
Malware droppers and the files in their payloads are often changed to avoid detection. There's no way of knowing if any other AV would have detected it.
I wonder how Mrs AO got it on her laptop, as she wont tell me..
I'd hazard a guess at a software vulnerability being exploited.

    Ah right, I see now..

    I can have 2012 for £4.

Anyhow, that's one done. Mrs AO reminded to remove all the photos onto the R3610 via the Network as this backs up every week. She was concerned that she may lose all her photos, but I would have just put the HD from the netbook into a caddy first.. :)

    Night all..

The version that you purchase is unimportant, as you will download 2013 or 2014 and just use the Product key from the disc.
I wouldn't depend on AVG to protect my computer.

You should be a car salesman...."Ooh, You don't want to buy a Ford.."

I think within a company, you have one desk who makes the viruses and one desk which fixes them.

Security - I think we have it covered with the Card-Readers, Rapport, Purchasing online with Credit Cards etc.

Absolute nonesense , click here and you wont be infected. No click and you get no crapware no problems.
Not sure what you mean... these days no website is safe.

For instance Twitter, Google, and the New York Times have all been hacked, and that's just in the last 2 weeks...

...are you suggesting never clicking on their websites?

And how would you predict which other big name, reputable website will get hacked next?

You took me too literally , it is about thinking , and using tools at your disposal e.g. Host Files(MVPS), Noscript, not using Java but at the end of the day it is down to whether you wish to click or think first then click. The number of people turning up here with the likes of Ask Tool bar etc are amazing.

Notwithstanding that of course you quoted out of context too the full post was

No antivirus can stop you clicking , and zero days have a field day with any AV if someone allows them in, and of course you run with the world's best AV at £x and expect it you to protect your admin rights account because it was not free.

No, just someone who has been helping out with others PC problems for a number of years.
You don't have to listen...I mean you have Rapport installed. Install whatever you like and come back to amuse us with the next problem/infection soon. ;)

you haven't seen the threads about rapport bsod'ing machines then?

Security isn't covered, because you're infected with ransomware.

I once had the BSOD, but I ran BSOD viewer..

I have to use Rapport, I had £2XXX (sorry cant say full amount, or from which bank) taken through online banking. This was before the days of enter your 2nd, 5th, 12th number/letter. I signed a bit that would say that I would not mention it, and update my internet security upon refunding. Were talking years ago.. :)

    it's not mandatory

it hasn't stopped you getting infected, once you are, the security of the machine is compromised. The only 100% safe cure is reinstall.

it causes blue screens and unbootable machines, if that happens a blue screen viewer is useless.

    That's cool..

We chose laptops that were all similar, as its pretty easy to reformat them using the partition recovery. Maybe 20mins and your back to the Win7 setup screens.

If I am away, or out of the country. Mrs AO can run it from the aid of YouTube etc.
