Police Computer Locked Virus...

Decided to go from Avast Free to Microsoft Security Essentials as Avast was causing slow boot on all of the Win7 platforms.

Today, Mrs AO reports that the laptop has been taken over by the "Cheshire Police Locked" thing, with her picture.

Its not looking good for Microsoft Security Essentials, as it does not look like its a new batch going round.

I wonder how Mrs AO got it on her laptop, as she wont tell me..

It's relatively easy to disable MSE. Not so easy to disable Kaspersky.

It's worth the £4 for when it comes to the clicky, clicky novice.
  • I don't really understand what your post is trying to say?
  • Why oh why do people use these free anti virus set ups ???? get some proper antivirus, pay for it and then you will be ok

Avast was the cause of the slow boot. Looks like its back to AVG.

My advice would be the same. Most people who post with computer problems are trying to do it on the cheap. Sorry don't mean any offence, it's just what I have read over and over on these forums for many years

Absolute nonesense , click here and you wont be infected. No click and you get no crapware no problems. No antivirus can stop you clicking , and zero days have a field day with any AV if someone allows them in, and of course you run with the world's best AV at £x and expect it you to protect your admin rights account because it was not free.

Well of course you have to not be silly what you click on, and any anti v is only as good as it's last update BUT I don't know anyone who would use MSE instead of proper anti v

Tis okay, were going back to how it was before hand.

I was unsure what Post#2 said. They referred to a £4 Anti-Virus but it was not displayed, nor Linked in the Money-Saving-Expert Anti-Virus List either.

We ran MBAM in Safe-Mode with Command Prompt, which picked up Trojan.Horse.GUI. Just rebooting to see what else comes along.
