  • Tis okay, were going back to how it was before hand.

I was unsure what Post#2 said. They referred to a £4 Anti-Virus but it was not displayed, nor Linked in the Money-Saving-Expert Anti-Virus List either.

We ran MBAM in Safe-Mode with Command Prompt, which picked up Trojan.Horse.GUI. Just rebooting to see what else comes along.
You don't really need to run Malwarebytes in safe mode , it is better in normal really. It may be worth posting the log and hope Waddler or someone more proficient than me to have a peek at it.

Edited Oh and ND's post for Kaspersky is even cheaper if you bank online with Barclays i.e. Free

Sorry, not part of the HSBC or the Barclays Group, I noticed they have free Anti-virus.

We ran MBAM in SafeMode as in Normal mode the GUI would load with Mrs AO half asleep mug shot in the background.

Its now up and running in normal mode, scanning away. Worst case its a factory restore...everything gets backed up to an External HD anyhows.

    p.s. I hope the photo wasn't with Mrs AO and a red-cap :D

avast --> mse ---> avg ? wrong way.

if avast was really causing a slow boot, maybe there is a reason, because it's not a feature of the product.

best protection against all viruses and slow boots is a regular disk image backup.

Paying for AV does not, and will never guarantee an infection free computer, and does not guarantee better protection than a free one.

Avast is a proper AV, as is AVG. You can pay for it, if it makes you feel better, but the virus protection is the same.

  • Yeah, that's it..

Avast caused slow boot, so much so that it could be 3mins or so before Win7 is fully up and running. Its 64bit with 4GB of ram. Its sole use was to connect to the TV via a HDMI, running XMBC. See that thread for more info.

I would use linux for that to be honest (dual boot of course for the availabilty of Windows woes )

I saw that thread, but the task manager shot is unreadable, so nothing to go on.

running avast on a similar setup, no problems. Factory restore, put avast back on, it will probably be fine. or spend an age with boot cd's cleaning it up.

  • Closed,

Ill see what happens. Currently have 2x Acer OneHappy2 Netbooks to get through, a Packard Bell Dot S (basically an Acer) and the R3610..

Nothing like jumping in with both feet..

Anyways, good news. Went into IE history, and found Mrs AO mug shot...now uploading to her FaceBook.. :)

I don't really understand what your post is trying to say?

Was referring to the fact that 'hackers' find it relatively easy to disable Microsoft Security Essentials. Kaspersky's efforts are a bit more robust.

You can download the latest version and purchase this key for £4.
  • Ah right, I see now..

    I can have 2012 for £4.

Anyhow, that's one done. Mrs AO reminded to remove all the photos onto the R3610 via the Network as this backs up every week. She was concerned that she may lose all her photos, but I would have just put the HD from the netbook into a caddy first.. :)

    Night all..
