Think of it as a yellow brick road, a journey with the ups and downs, ok maybe was a bad day, but you achieved a lot and from Mrs K and the family, that sounds like a massive hurdle achieved.

I would put my foot down with niece, although not really her its his lordship, but knowing that Sundays is family time, when Mrs K goes back to work full time you need to change your diary, set things in stone and allow family time.

    You all take care xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • Mr K, hope your evening with the outlaws has been bearable, and that you kept your cool!!

Well, I am back and have survived. :)

Actually really quite enjoyed the time spent with niece, she has really come on with her music since I saw her last and seemed very keen to learn today.

The meal was less than successful (they know we go to my parents for Sunday lunch) and yet we all went out for a carvery. Mrs. K.'s mother was very annoyed when both my wife and I ordered something else. Of course, my parents and I were blamed for being "selfish" for spending Sunday together as a family. Fortunately, I managed to stay out of it for the most part as I seemed to be the children's "entertainment", as least they've got a sense of humour.

  • Glad you came out of it in one piece. Children can be right old lifesavers sometimes. They are so uncomplicated and call a spade a spade, quite refreshing really. Bet you are too tired to write a diary entry tonight!!

Boo: too tired to write a DECENT diary entry! But, here goes:

    Sunday 15th September, 2013.
    Day 14.

    Dear Diary,

This is going to be a short entry as I am only just back from the mother-in-law's birthday. However, I could not miss writing something for my diary's two week anniversary.

Today has been hectic and tiring especially as I haven't managed to get a decent night's sleep for the past two days running. However, despite the "jokes" that are nearly always on me, I managed to find a couple of my wife's family members who seemed an awful lot more reasonable than the "usual suspects", pity they were all under twelve. Mrs. K. politely spoke to her family about me but that was largely met by deaf ears, unfortunately making herself a target for their malicious "banter". However, she can more than hold her own and I think they wished they'd never so much as said a crossed word. Still Mrs. K. was very upset with their actions.

On a more positive note my pen man gave me a deposit for another pen I had not yet put up for sale and is having a word with his wife about another (hope it's none of you on here or I stand no chance ;)).

I apologise for this short entry.

    Summary:
£12.99 Bottle of wine (could not be cheaper as this was in a pub).

    Yours Faithfully,
    Alex.

thats brilliant news about the pen, and espically saving the ebay fees!!

Glad all went semi ok, even if it was the under 12s..... You come through semi - unscatched, and thats half the battle.

You take care, try and get some sleep, (although easier said than done!!) xx

  • Alex.................you could set the in-laws as a private challenge.

Pick the one that is the least offensive to you (not including under 12's, you have already won with them) and then that person is your challenge to get to know and to change their perspective of you.

If the challenge doesnt work with them, move on to the next person.
I'm sure if you break it down like this it would be easier to crack.

I'm not saying you have to like them but playing this game could throw up some surprising results. Good luck. :D

  • I always go off with the kids when I have to go to the SIL's or MIL's house too I find it's the best way ;) the kids are much easier to get along with and don't throw a million questions at me and then roll their eyes at every answer I have for them :p

Glad it all went off reasonably ok - well went off anyway!! Yes kids can be a great distraction.

Just one thing - its not set in stone that you HAVE to go to your parents on a Sunday - especially if its someone else's birthday and you are going out for another meal later - so I see their point there and think I would say think the same (though not say it) - 'if they knew we were going out for a meal why did they bother having a large lunch anyway?'.
