Mara: Thank you very much for your encouraging post, I am really very much enjoying being involved in music again. :) One of the parents today asked me to play, which was a little unnerving to say I hadn't played my violin in front of anybody for over 6 years but it was an absolute pleasure.

My in-laws see me as a complete and utter failure. They despite most things creative and that includes music, well apart from the drivel they listen to on the radio.

As for the pens, I was going to update about that in my diary entry this evening, first two have gone and I've raised just over £1,000 so far.

fc123: :) Things are getting there slowly. I did tell Mrs. K. off a little this evening as she had gone out to the supermarket whilst I was teaching and spent over £50. Mind, she has got me a lovely breakfast of smoked salmon for tomorrow, so perhaps I should not complain? We are all entitled to a little treat every now and then, no?

As for the cleaner, it takes Mrs. K. and I about 6 hours to do what you says takes three and no, we don't have a massive house (it's a three bedroom detached, with fairly generous rooms).

Oh yes my parents do enjoy having our son but just struggle as they are getting to that kind of age were they are beginning to slow down.

The chairs have been photographed as have a few other things. This will sound like an excuse ... but I've been so busy with work that I've not had time to advertise these things. However, that is my task for tomorrow.

AmyandArthur: I think we may be underestimating what a professional cleaner can do in what time :o.

Hah :), I have found a BT Openzone connection...just 2 measly little bars but enough to get online for email and nag you ;)

It takes 12 man-hours to clean kitchen, bathroom, hoover, mop and dust?
Book the cleaner for 3 hours and give them the highest priority tasks .....in your view. What I mean is give them the tasks that you least want to do yourselves.
See how you manage and then add a session if it's not enough.

How much are cleaners up your way? Down here they are £12 - £15 phr.

Love hearing about the playing...can't believe you didn't play for 6 years.
In a couple of years you'll be conducting your own mini-me orchestra with all the pupils.:)

I must find out where my mother downloads her music from...a lot of it is free and she loves Russian composers which are hard to find. She used to go to a place on Bond St that was there for decades and he used to get her obscure sheet music but I think he closed down recently as he was about 80 and he retired.

Granariesgirl: That is possibly the first time I have smiled about the "out-laws" for a very long time. :)

I will read your link this evening. In April 1993, I was 12 so don't really remember the whole goings on with the IRA. I do agree that 9/11 was indeed very surreal.
    .

Alex - I can sympathise with those less lucky than myself in the Out-law department as I have many friends who suffer from this affliction so I know how they deal with it best. :(

I have the ULTIMATE mother-in-law: she drinks like a fish, can afford MUCH better wine than us & is generous with it... she also has a wicked sense of humour & loves looking after the kids. :D

    TWELVE in 1993?!!

    hahaha :)

Yes, it does perhaps my wife and I don't use our time effectively but yes, 12 man-hours. We'll have a go at the three hour session.

£10.00 p/h here, can believe as everything else it is more expensive in London.

:), I'm really enjoying the music and no, I have ignored it for a long time. About a year ago I was talking about selling my piano and violin (which are worth A LOT of money, more than my debts ;)). However, Mrs. K. refused to let me, I'm glad of that now. :) Our boy seems to love hearing music within the house too.

Hope so! I conducted a few groups during my university days and really enjoyed it.

IMSLP by any chance, re. your mother's music? What instrument(s) does she play?

Lucky you! :D Your M-i-L sounds great. :) Unfortunately, most people I know do not get on particularly well with their in-laws. Luckily Mrs. K. gets along well with my parents, even if she does think them a bit "prim and proper" as she says. :rotfl:

Yes, I was indeed twelve in 1993. ;);)

Orange Ena: hahaha, you could buy a pen from me, though? Honestly, do you really believe I have "sharing issues"?

I just want to protect him from the "big bad world", I don't want him to stop being the happy little boy he is now.

What's wrong with a bit of tweed? ;);) I am aware I did come over as a bit of a snob in that last post, I have been trying not to judge on appearances.

No Alex, I don't believe you have sharing issues! I was joking cause you didn't offer to lend me a pen :rotfl:

As I said before, I don't have kids but I can appreciate that you want to protect little K. The news is filled with stories of bad things happening, but at some point in the future, he's got to get out there and live his life. I believe that kids should learn that they can't have everything on a plate, they need to work hard and stay out of trouble, and that sometimes things go wrong and things fail, but that they should experience everything they want (within reason!).

I remember reading a few years ago about a head teacher that didn't like the thought of kids "failing" their exams, that it wouldn't help their self esteem etc. She decided to ban the word "fail", but instead use "deferred success" :rotfl: To me that is crazy, failure happens. Life can be hard and maybe kids (more teenage kids that your little ones age!) need to know that. Not sure if I'm being negative or realistic :(:)

Nothing wrong with tweed ;) Or comedy socks :rotfl:

    Wow, that's fantastic :T But who'd spend loads of money on a pen? A pen? Aaaaah................oops :o:o:D

Glad to see I'm not the only one that can't get petrol to land on a rounded figure :rotfl::p

    LOL, I see! :D

I do understand where you are coming from re. children and also failure. However, as logical as I can be with other peoples children, it is very different with my own. I never thought I'd be like this either; I do attribute my reluctance to let my son go (on any level) to the fact I was once (apparently) a very happy child too. I don't want him turning into me, I really, truly do not.

He has wore sensible socks tonight (so far) but still those brown shoes with a BLACK suit. :rotfl:

ETA: :rotfl: re. the pens, there are more eccentrics who like nice pens out there in this world than just I! ;)

hahaha on the petrol ... I'm not much better. However, there are a few stations around here where you can set the machine to an exact amount. ;)

Wish I had pens that would sell for £1000!

Gosh you should be pleased of all the money you'll make. Just think how it will bring the total of your debt down.

Bit indulgent having smoked salmon etc but I suppose a little treat is ok - so long as its not nearly every day!
