Sunday 20th April, 2014.
Dear Diary,
Today we hosted the most spectacular Easter egg hunt our village had ever seen. OK, it wasn't really that exciting with no one dressed up as the Easter Bunny - tried to persuade Mrs. K. but she was having none of it. However, it must have been successful because I have been feeling rather sick the whole evening after eating far too much chocolate.

Dear Diary,
Mrs. K. goes away tomorrow to Rome until Sunday. Though I have pretended to be happy for her I cannot help but be somewhat bitter as I have not spent any money entirely on myself since last year and would really quite like a few days away from reality myself. However, it's her money.
On the plus side, it seems there's a few people willing to pay for the old junk that has come out of my garage, so hopefully some of that will go towards paying off my debts. It'll only total around £250 or so, I think but it's £250 in things that I either didn't know lived there or parts for cars we no longer own.

-£0.00 NSD. Yes, two in a row.

Alex - feel so sorry for you - fancy her going off using 'her' money - and not funding your therapist. What happened to the wedding vows of sharing?
Anyhow you know all that so no point dwelling - hope you have some super days just with your son - eat and do what you like.
Anyhow £250 is great - from our perspective anyway.
Was thinking of you at the weekend as they had an article in the Saturday Mail about how to tell people's class and who was 'middle middle' or 'upper middle' etc!Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -
Working class and happy here

Alex, I'm coming to yours next Easter
I do think Mrs K. is being incredibly selfish - could she not have cut the trip short by one night and helped you with a therapy session? It will benefit you both in the end.

Roland: She needs a break. Whilst, I can't say I'm particularly pleased I do think it may do us some good to be away from one and other for a little while. It will be nice to have a few days to do as I like, not that there's any money to spend - mind, coming up with ideas to keep son entertained with very little money is interesting in itself.
£250 is better than nothing, in fact it almost seems like quite a bit of money to me at the moment, that is if it weren't going on the debts.
:rotfl: At the Daily Mail article, so what did it say?
HBS: I am starting to think there is nothing "wrong" in being "working class", so long as the "working class" are actually "working", of course.
:rotfl: The more the merrier, just bring a bottle of wine ... no, I mean Easter egg.
She's gone (going) with her brother, his wife and two other couples so not really. At least I haven't got stuck with the 2 nieces.2018 totals:

So true
I watch Titanic and think that the below-decks party looks far more fun than the champagne dinner ha ha!
Will my home-brew wine do?
Well hopefully Mrs K. will come back refreshed and yourself and Little K. will be glad to see her

HBS: :rotfl: Can't say I'm particularly interested in becoming "working class" but I perhaps do not feel scornful about such things anymore.
Hmmm maybe it will after a couple too many.
Yes, I hope she comes back refreshed also, she's got an interview next week and one early the week after - I hope she's had a think about the two (rather different) jobs and which (if any) would suit her.2018 totals:

Tuesday 22nd April, 2014.
Dear Diary,
Today has been particularly difficult for obvious reasons, not managed to get much work done either but I was pleased son wasn't too upset about Mrs. K. going on holiday. In fact, I think I'll be worse than he was today when she takes him away later on this year, especially if he's that nonchalant about not seeing me for the week.
Anyhow, whilst I have not made any progress with regards to my debts today, I have managed to review the charges on my business account for the last year and plan to see if I can save any money there by either switching my account or persuading my bank to do some kind of "deal". Any tips very much appreciated, as always.

HOK3Y: :rotfl: Well, that was amusing.
As for what you all wish to know (yes, the article needs to be read first).
1. "Pardon": I say "sorry?" which is apparently "upper middle".
2. "Toilet": It's "bathroom" in this household knocking me down to "lower-middle middle".
3. "Serviette": Who on earth actually says "serviette"? :rotfl:, it's most certainly a "napkin" here, bringing me back up to "upper middle".
4. "Dinner / tea": It's "dinner" here, so not as lowly as "tea" nor so upper as "supper".
5. "Settee": I detest that word, it's a sofa. Back to "upper middle"
6. "Lounge": My parents have a "drawing room" which is not pretentious given the nature and size of their house, here it's the "sitting room".
7. "Sweet": No, don't use that either. It's "pudding" (if warm) or "dessert" if cold. Middle or upper middle then.
As for the other words:
"Posh" - only really said in jest, though nor do I use "smart" to mean the same thing.
"Mum and Dad" or "Mummy and Daddy" - Nope. It's "Mother and Father", so not lower or upper for that one, just old fashioned.
"Perfume / scent" - Have used both before.
"Party time" - My first hint towards being "lower class" as I have been guilty of saying "do" a number of times in the past.
"Portions" - Redeeming myself here with "helpings".
"Patio" - haven't got one of those, nor a terrace. At the moment the outside of my home is just referred to as "the grounds" - no idea what that makes me.
:rotfl: At the Jaguar reference in particular; my father has long been a "Jaguar man". No mention of LRs or BMWs so it appears Mrs. K., mother and I are not of the sleazy "slum-landlord" variety.2018 totals:
