With regards to the business, I send out information and brochures to stores that could be interested in stocking my products. I haven't got around to the website yet, if I'm honest it's mainly down to me making excuses.

My wife found me the music pupils in the first instance, then a couple were by word of mouth. I haven't done anything to find new ones but ought to. As for why I haven't done anything to be honest I hadn't really thought about it.

Not sold and I'd kind of forgotten all about it until today. :o

:T Well done on being honest :T. And well done on what you HAVE done :T. But really Alex? Sending out brochures to stores that could be interested? is that it? At least follow up with taking a small item in the car round to them so they can see the quality :naughty:
You seem to know more about my aims than I do at the moment! Reckon I need a PA. ;)

No, you need a good kick up the backside. Which is what a good PA would do anyway :rotfl:.
Yes, I do unfortunately have a long list of things I have started and never finished because I get bored very easily.

So, how are we going to overcome this? What is the largest (size wise, not necessarily time wise) thing you want to get rid of? Let's start on that. What, when and how?
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I have done a couple of events in the past for stockists or potential stockists. Follow ups are not really done and should be. Admittedly, I do not put anywhere near as much effort in as I could if the business didn't have to operate around other commitments. I had been hoping a website would show if there was any interest further afield than Nottingham.

So, you admit I do in fact need a PA? A twenty-something blonde would do nicely. ;)

If I knew how to overcome this, I'd not be in this situation. :o However, I'm willing to give most things a go. There are quite a few large items of furniture that are of no use to us and need to find a new home. Not entirely sure about the "when" or the "how" though at this stage.

everyday sexism spring to mind Alex?!!

    Forshame!

On all your other points I would believe in this day and age a website would be a no-brainer in terms of building your business outside of your local area and hence upping income. You could have one up and running using a template in an afternoon.

Self-motivation is tricky but surely the goals are so great you should be motivated to do all the things listed above? :)

Everything else needs to fit around the business.

Perhaps this is part of the reason Mrs K has money and you don't - things have to fit around her work, whilst you try to find time for your work when everything else is done.

Given the impact your lack of income is having on both your marriage and your mental health, you need to prioritise your business a bit more. Other things will fall in line - increase nursery sessions, spend a bit less time on the model railway etc. What commitments do you have to juggle?

Don't be silly, I'm not sexist ... my wife wouldn't let me be. ;) Seriously, it was a joke, that's all.

Yes, it is a no-brainer. However, I have not yet worked out how I would deal with an interested party living quite a distance away.

I should be motivated but often have months when I just cannot face anything other than the type of things others would call "messing about".

Whilst I agree some things need to fit around the business, not everything does. I am not willing to see my son grow up with me being more interested in business than I am in him.

My commitments generally involve either looking after my son, making toys / activities for him, visiting my parents, building the model railway and practising music.

And I'm not suggesting he should. I work full time and have to prioritise that otherwise the bills don't get paid... but I would never say I'm more interested in my work than my children.

However, some of those commitments you list should be a lower priority than your business.

    Found you one. Starts tomorrow.

So, pick ONE piece of furniture. The biggest. And get it sold. Or your PA will sort you out ;).

Seconded. You're making excuses Alex - and who is the railway REALLY for .

Lannie: I understand where you are coming from now. :)

Sometimes I just cannot face working and the inevitable knock-backs. I know not to take any of it personally, yet at times hearing the word "no, thank you" for whatever reason really makes me miserable.

:rotfl: Very funny, gallygirl ... you are well aware he was not the PA I had in mind.

My whole life seems to be one big excuse much of the time. As for the railway, it's for my son and I to enjoy together, so yes, it's not just for him I don't suppose.

    Sunday 23rd March, 2014.

    Dear Diary,

It appears I may be staying loyal to you for a while longer for you provide a wisdom I never quite imagined, it seems you have surpassed my expectations once again. Why? You ask. Well, in writing things down, sometimes I begin to realise the way forward. As much as I constantly tell myself that I put as much effort into things as I can, I realise through honestly writing down my actions that I am not as productive as I'd like to think on a day to day basis and this affects my ability to live within my means.

Can't be bothered to buy food and cook it; go out instead because you've had a very hard day and you deserve to relax and unwind. Don't want to do work; go play instead because life is far too short, Alex. Yes, my life is full of those little excuses that prevent me from just getting on and doing things, even when I don't really want to. Inevitably this ends up costing money in one way or another and the vicious circle starts all over again, only ending with me becoming more and more miserable.

    Yours Faithfully,
    Alex.

  • Hi Alex

hope you don't mind me de-lurking to say hello

Have you really paid off £19,092.56 in 6 months? Did I miss a lottery win or similar on your diary? Or is that just amazing! :T

    Well done
