    Debt-free and Proud!
    Thursday 20th March, 2014.

    Dear Diary,

I've been having some really dark thoughts throughout the day, though I realise all I would really like to do is start over only with the hindsight I now have. Whilst I know others must think the same, my life really could have been very, very different if I had only thought things through before acting when I was younger. Now, having left things too late, I have to live with so many consequences that I cannot see a way to happiness.

On the debt busting front, I've managed to put a few more items onto eBay but have not started my investigations into improving my business, my excuse being that I have been ill since the start of the week is both true and valid, somewhat of a first for me.

    Summary:
    +£30.00 Music Teaching.
    -£0.00 NSD.

    Yours Faithfully,
    Alex.
    2018 totals:
    Savings £11,200
    Mortgage Overpayments £5,500
  • Sadly none of us can start over (believe me, I'd love to!). We cannot change, but we can learn :)

I hope you're recovering from your illness now.

Why does every bill seem as if it comes at once, when we do not have the funds available? I know the whole point of the SOA was to break costs down into monthly figures and actually save that amount for each item. Unfortunately, now Mrs. K. is in charge of the finances, we do not try to do this anymore. Now the bills have come and she's going to pay them on her credit card, instead of dipping into our savings (read my business savings).

HBS: Thank you, I'm trying to learn from my mistakes but often feel like they are holding me back, giving me every reason to doubt myself.

    Fortunately, I'm slightly better today.

I am insisting my son receives the best future possible and fail to see the problem with this? Having thought about this long and hard, I do not think I should put this burden onto my parents (paying for their grandson's education) as it is my responsibility, not theirs.

It is not pleasant having responsibility without power, or in this case earnings. I am sorry your parents see little K's education as a burden.

I am sorry you took it that way, it wasn't my intention. Probably because I don't see not being in the wealthy as 'inadequate'. I was attempting to instil pragmatism.

Thank you for the clarification, I'm sorry I took your comments as a personal slight. Unfortunately, my low income is a subject that is far too close to my heart at the moment.

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Friday 21st March, 2014.

    Dear Diary,

I am unsure how much longer I will be writing entries, for I've nothing new to say most of the time and the family finances are no longer under my control. These days, all I seem to have something to say about is my miserable life which I am failing to make progress with for the moment and I am fairly certain this is a topic nobody particularly wants to hear about.

I wish I could say my little family has embraced the MSE way of life and I leave my wallet at home whilst finding free, local activities and spending less on everyday items. However, we have not accomplished this and there is nobody more disappointed in myself than I.

Yours Faithfully (but perhaps for not much longer),
    Alex.

Alex, I am sorry that you are going through a bad patch at the moment. Of course it has to be your decision as to whether you continue with your diary or not. In my opinion you have come a long way in many areas of your life since your diary began.

I really hope that you can hang on in there, even if progress is slow on the debt front, you have, and I think will continue to receive support here, even if some of your priorities are alien to many of us.

Neither you debt or your health problems with disappear overnight, but there is no reason if the world that things should not improve, but both will require your participation and tenacity. You are a much nicer person than you give yourself credit for, but, of course that is part of your health problem.

    Take care and good luck.

Maddie May: Thank you for your support. I will continue to strive to become debt free. I have managed to list some more items on eBay, so all is not completely lost. However, Mrs. K. is now looking after our finances (something I'm not happy about but am unable to do anything) and just thinking about the way things are going at the moment is making me rather ill.

On the current personal debt front, I'm not giving up all hope yet, though the future looks more grim each day.
