I think your diary entry last night was one of those light bulb moments!

I don't any of us can change our nature, but at least by recognising areas to work on, we can try and improve.

    Good for you!

Re knitting yoghurt...... I think I'm heading in that direction!

I recently bought a breadmaker and I love it, so I'm looking at other things I can make at home. We love our yoghurt in this house, so I'm giving serious thought to getting a yoghurt maker. I would never have thought of that a couple of years ago, so never say never, Alex, you could be a yoghurt knitter one day!!

Forget those cheese strings, pass me the port and stilton any day. Mind, perhaps I just want the alcohol. :o

I think that likely proves we crave things that are bad for us at any age. :rotfl:

Absolutely!!! I love ANY cheese, my favourite is Pyrenees (spelling???) but it's hard to find here so I only get it (got it) when DH is/was in France on business, or there's a specialist cheese shop up north that he'd pop into if he was working that way. Brie, camembert, stilton, smoked......love it!!! Oh, but not cheese with bits in, like fruit.......if only it wasn't so fattening!!!!

You sound like you're making real progress Alex, well done! It is definitely a mindset this money saving lark, and it's taken DHs redundancy for it to finally click with the both of us. At least you haven't got the stress of that to contend with on top of everything else, you just need to stop beating yourself up about things you can't change, and focus on making the future the best it can be xx

Goldie: Thank you, yes it was a bit of a lightbulb moment. I've not been so well tonight though.

:rotfl: I have to admit there's a lot of mending old things goes on in this house, perhaps more because I like antiques but still. :)

Molly: You are making me rather jealous, it's years since I've been to France.

Unfortunately, I've been full of anxiety tonight. Now cannot sleep yet again.

    Saturday 11th January, 2014.
    Day 136.

    Dear Diary,

Today has been quiet, with little to report other than £500 paid off my debts. :)

I almost wrote a ranting, self-depreciating message to somebody a few hours ago but turned it around, instead wondering if I could one day accomplish one of my dreams instead of spending many hours telling myself I couldn't. Perhaps trying first may be a start? Mrs. K. was rather pleased that I seemed focused on something for once, instead of telling the world I cannot do something without even trying first. It dawned on me that I've not always been like this, in fact when I was younger I was quite the opposite, something got lost when I started to break.

Two things to be thankful for:
    The debts are going down.
My wife has been very supportive today.

    Summary:
    NSD.

    Yours Faithfully,
    Alex.

Sounds to me that, while very difficult and disturbing, the counselling is beginning to have an effect.
It is very obvious really, but negativity is a symptom of depression, as I know. If you suffer from clinical depression, you will struggle to be positive, but as you get better this will return. It can be quite draining for loved ones, and it seems from your posts that certain people who are close to you do not understand depression (including yourself, who thinks you are 'weak'). Yes, do try and see the bright side, but if you cant at the moment, give yourself a break and recognise that depression is an illness and it takes therapy or drugs to recover from it.
I wonder if your parents, and Mrs K, would read a bit about depression and its effects in order for them to expect less from you, till you are better. And, take it from me, you will be better one day, and the world will look entirely different.

Ali: Thank you, I certainly hope this is the case. I've spent far too long being hopeless and letting time pass me by, I sincerely wish through trying to overcome this, I will. However, I am aware it will not be easy, nor does there seem to be a "quick fix". Currently, I'm on my second lot of pills; the first were not really effective, doing counselling and should be starting CBT at some point.

Well done for the £500 off :) you also sound slightly more positive, which is good. With depression, things are always going to seem harder, more difficult, and this might seem a bit silly to say, but take one day at a time - sometimes, getting out of bed will be an achievement! But, you're doing this, and you are going to be okay :)

Had a falling out with the parents today, to be honest I'm not sure whether they're right or not but on the positive side, I've managed to get quite a few things up for sale and sort through a bit more of the house. My wife and I found a few things (nothing worth any money, mainly old photos) we'd completely forgotten all about, brought back some funny memories.

slowlyfading: I know that feeling all too well, unfortunately. For once I'm actually welcoming medical intervention instead of telling everybody I'm alright, as it's not fair on them.

Claire: Yes, I hope so too. :)

    Sunday 12th January, 2014.
    Day 137.

    Dear Diary,

I have to admit I'm on a bit of a downer today: fell out with my parents, spent a lot of money on essentials and have really been struggling to get much sleep despite being prescribed sleeping pills. When I do manage to get to sleep, I only seem to manage to have this same, horrific reoccurring dream that I'm alone in some freezing, falling apart house with just a photo of my son that I keep staring at and very little else. I think I ought to try and trust the doctors a little more, resisting their treatment doesn't seem to be doing me any good as I'm starting to accept things like that are not "normal".

On the positive side, I've got quite a few items listed on eBay which should total around £5,000 towards paying my debts if it all sells.

Two things to be thankful for:
My son never fails to make me smile, even if I'm feeling mildly suicidal.
I'm doing something about the money I owe and my over exuberant lifestyle before it becomes a major problem.

    Summary:
    -£25.00 Groceries.
    -£80.00 Petrol - BMW.
    -£60.00 Diesel - LR.
    -£30.00 Petrol - Triumph.

    Yours Faithfully,
    Alex.
