    Hello Alex,
I hope you are feeling great today!
I have noticed your answers above to someone suggesting that your volunteering could make a great difference to the life of those children.

'... Not sure that will happen, in FACT really I am SURE it won't!'
' ... I've ALWAYS found it difficult to chill out!

That is what I am referring to when I say you are so NEGATIVE!
They are toxic, unhelpful , fixed, self destructive etc thought patterns! I really hope you can start rewording or re phrasing them .. 'Old dog new tricks!'
It's a vicious circle, bad habits and you can relearn to have a more positive self regard.

I truly believe you can make a difference in the lives of those children, perhaps you might be the only person of a very contrasting background they will ever know in their lives. You can be a good 'role model', and I hope those children will never pick on you being somoone who looks down on that sort of demographics because that will be very unhelpful for them.

    Have a lovely evening,

Iwillsucceed: Thank you. :) I struggle to be positive at the best of times. Something a friend said to me today made me wonder if it is even possible for me to be happy.

    Thursday 9th January, 2014.
    Day 134.

    Dear Diary,

My wife and I had an interesting conversation today with another parent, one whom I'd describe as being a professional and whose income I would estimate to be greater than ours. We were talking about education as this parent thought I was a teacher (as in a full time, employed teacher), after explaining that was in fact not the case our conversation turned to his liberal views - something that shocked me. To him, having what I'd term as "nice things" meant next to nothing, he'd like to see "the rich" taxed to high heaven and said his children will be sent to state schools for their whole education as he thought the independent sector to be "morally corrupt". Strange man was all I could think to myself throughout the whole bizarre conversation. However, he seemed content, happy with his lot in life.

I, on the other hand, spend my life chasing "things", in order to "better" myself. The very thought and realisation that I cannot provide better than my parents could for me in monetary terms makes me feel ill. The fact my constant battle with depression means I cannot put my all into making more money only serves to heighten my misery. It was then that the metaphorical penny dropped; I will not be content with my lot in life, even if I were to succeed because I'll always want more. If I were a millionaire, I'd be disappointed I weren't a billionaire. I do not want my son to have to battle a continuous feeling of inadequacy throughout his life, continually striving for more no matter what he has and loathing himself for not being the absolute best at everything. Thus, I shall strive to not let him see my greed filled, bitter side.

Two things to be thankful for:
    A drive in the sunshine.
Counselling was not near so bad as I worried it would be.

    Summary:
    +£30.00 Music Teaching.
    -£40.00 Petrol.
    -£4.50 Cafe.
    -£15.00 Groceries.

    Yours Faithfully,
    Alex.

bess: I wouldn't get too excited just yet, it was somewhat of a realisation, no solution has been found.

I've had this problem for as long as I remember. Going back to my school days it was not about money but my exam results; if I achieved a mark of 90-odd%, I was woefully disappointed it was not 100% and I detested anyone achieving a better mark than I had.

  • Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral Arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun.

Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-two million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue-green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.

This planet has - or had - a problem, which was this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy.

And so the problem remained; lots of the people were mean, and most of them were miserable, even the ones with digital watches.

Well done for realising that money (and watches) may not be the answer :T

Pippi: Unfortunately, I am unaware of an answer thus far. As for digital watches, you are most welcome to keep those. ;)

Wow, whatever happened in that conversation must have really triggered a switch in there.

Glad today went ok, - we had a bit of a turnaround for the best, DD managed a whole day at school without being poorly, came home she went to Red Cross, she's goes once a month as a young carer, gives a break from the house etc. She has got colour in her cheeks, she even asked could she have cheese strings as her treat from the supermarket, got my old daughter back xx

mum2one: I think it was that combined with the counselling session.

I'm glad to hear your daughter is feeling better and am rather impressed she volunteers for the Red Cross at her age. :) But, mum2one, cheese strings, honestly? ;);)

I wish she did volunteer, the Red Cross run a young carers once a month, so kids can have fun, activities etc.

My thoughts exactly - but calcium in the cheese (there has to be a positive somewhere).

It really sounds like your turning a corner with the counselling x
