Roland: Oh yes, goes without saying.
He loved being out in the Land Rovers, disturbingly just as much as his presents, his Grandma let him "drive" hers at one point ... oh dear, it appears my wife and I have created another car nut to be.
If only I'd not ended up falling out with my father-in-law, it would have actually been rather perfect.
ETA: How was yours? Hope it was a good one.2018 totals:

mum2one: He had a great one.
I think you are right and I'm rather tired, remembering the worse parts of the day.
I had this vision perhaps everybody could go to my parents' for next year and father-in-law took a dislike to the suggestion. Unfortunately, it all turned rather nasty after that.2018 totals:

Well sounds as much his fault as yours - and everything looks different in the morning - so don't worry.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0

Why suggest that ? Why not suggest everyone comes to yours ? Neutral territory ? Never mind, its twelve months away.
Happy left overs day ! XIts just a bad day, Not a bad life .. :cool:0 -
It's the first year in a little while that Mrs K's parents have had her (and Little K?) over on xmas day, and you're already suggesting that your parents might be the focus of xmas again next year? (Albeit with Mrs K's parents visiting... so they have to be on their best behaviour and can't relax and have their own xmas traditions...). I can see why that didn't go down so well.
Nevermind - arguments at xmas are almost traditional :P As long as Little K had a lovely day, that's the most important thingMortgage when started: £330,995

Thanks, things are a little better today. Still not spoken to father-in-law and apologised for my own comments which did get a little out of order. Why suggest that ? Why not suggest everyone comes to yours ? Neutral territory ? Never mind, its twelve months away.

My parents have a large house and a dining table which would accommodate everybody. I don't, neither does Mrs. K.'s family, in fact I've got more space than them! To me, it sounded a perfect solution.LannieDuck wrote: »It's the first year in a little while that Mrs K's parents have had her (and Little K?) over on xmas day, and you're already suggesting that your parents might be the focus of xmas again next year? Mrs. K.'s family have never seen our son on Christmas day before yesterday. However, they've got other grandchildren. I was not trying to make my parents the "focus" at all, they suggested we spend the day next year with them which would leave my parents alone. I thought after our son's birthday party that perhaps it could work if we all went to my parents' house and the mother-in-law cooked the dinner, it seems they did not.2018 totals:

Thursday 26th December, 2013.
Day 120.
Dear Diary,
My gluttonous feasting over the past couple of days seems to have taken it's toll; I'm now feeling rather ill, which is always that little more disappointing when you know that it's all self inflicted. Thankfully, this year food has been my weakness rather than drink. I blame the parents for a ridiculously large meal once again.
Onto my next dilemma, I have received a rather nice amount of money for Christmas which I am not entirely sure what to do with. Still, something must have clicked inside my tiny brain to actually be weighing up the options instead of simply jumping in head first!
Tomorrow, I'm back to reality for a few hours as I'm working though the suggestion that Mrs. K. should be immaculately presented with my dinner on the table like every good housewife does didn't go down awfully well.

I don't normally comment Alex although I do follow your diary out of interest as I remember your first post. Christmas plans are emotive and I can understand how your fil took offence, from your last post it almost sounds as though your mother in law is being invited to be the cook/hired help - as a mother and daughter in law I would hate to cook in someone else's kitchen especially if they are present.Determined to save and not squander!

Hello Sedge, please feel free to comment any time.
To be honest my mother-in-law is a good cook and she enjoys it.My parents would buy the food, I'm sure. So, whilst not inviting her as some "hired help", I thought it would be a good idea as it'd mean they'd be contributing, though my Father-in-law clearly did not. I suppose it's rather hard to put into words just what a p***k he is.
