Cheapie one - parker Vector - shes got one parker pen, but it won't take cartridges shes wearing more ink than the paper - shes tried mine and likes it - so Santas got her one for her stocking.
Bet when Little K is older your be doing the same with his g/friends.... its amazing what parents remember to embarrass you with x
:rotfl: I hope she carries on her enthusiasm for writing with a proper pen, far too many people seem to write with nasty ballpoints and nothing else in ugly, printed handwriting.
No doubt I will.Still, at least I'm pretty sure when the time comes for my son to visit universities I will not be called "Grandfather" like my father was.

Oi! *poke* my Dad made sure I had good handwriting and I can write beautifully with a ballpoint - in fact I have to, paperwork in a lab needs to be waterproof! :rotfl: I will also state that two of the people I know with the worst handwriting ever will not use anything but fountain pens
Do agree with you on groceries - we managed to cut down by buying frozen and tinned things where possible - why buy dozens of fresh peppers and onions when I can get a big bag of snap-frozen pre-diced stuff cheaper? It all tastes the same once it's in a chilli
With writing a list, it all depends on what you've put on the list - again see if you can cut brands here and there. I'm very picky when it comes to tuna, but veg is veg, for example

Agreed! My handwriting is lovely!Left handed Mr Delta can't get on with a fountain pen at all - the nib digs into the page and then his hand smudges the ink.
WRT grocery shopping I think it depends what you buy - we hardly ever have meat (when we do it is a treat from the butcher for a special occasion) so our protein is much cheaper than it otherwise would be. Same with booze. Also dropping brand levels can make a big difference. We try to just buy food from the supermarket as well - no clothes, crockery, DVDs etc....those are the real killers! If it helps at all we are a family of 3 with a nearly same aged child as you and we spend around £50 a week (don't do weekly shops, more like every 10 days or so but it averages out around there) and don't in any way feel deprived or have gaps in the cupboards at home.
Hope that you have a good weekend.Sealed Pot Challenge - No. 117

There's always some exceptions, HBS and you have a valid excuse too.heartbreak_star wrote: »Do agree with you on groceries - we managed to cut down by buying frozen and tinned things where possible - why buy dozens of fresh peppers and onions when I can get a big bag of snap-frozen pre-diced stuff cheaper? I don't buy fresh produce (fruit / veg, meat, bread, cakes etc) from supermarkets.
Whilst I don't think brands are a problem (very little branded stuff in our kitchen), I think it may be what we eat. However, I'm not so inclined to compromise.Agreed! He's holding the pen wrong, lots of LH'ers can write very well with a fountain pen.WRT grocery shopping I think it depends what you buy - we hardly ever have meat (when we do it is a treat from the butcher for a special occasion) so our protein is much cheaper than it otherwise would be. OK, we have meat or fish everyday and I've cut the booze down quite significantly in recent times.
I don't buy clothes, crockery or anything else from the supermarket. We tend to only buy things like cereal or snack type things from there and yet still £50.00 per week seems impossible.2018 totals:

Ah that's interesting - he does always look horribly "hunched" when he writes!
Sorry, I should have known you'd never buy clothes in a supermarket
It doesn't sound too awful though what you spend on groceries if you have meat or fish every day. You can afford what you spend and it's registering if you know what I mean. You've changed so many things lately don't beat yourself up over the grocery spend. Maybe meal planning and slow cookering can be your next project!Sealed Pot Challenge - No. 117

Left handers often seem to do that, I only know through observation and not liking to see people not holding a pen properly.I ought keep that zipped else the OCD confessions may start to slip ...

:rotfl: Of course, can't say I've ever bought clothing from a supermarket ... I'd know things really were in dire straits if that ever happened.
OK, perhaps that is where others are saving. I do have my "treats" too.Slow cookering is going rather well - we use it fairly often but not noticed it makes meals cheaper. Oh well.

Friday 20th December, 2013.
Day 111.
Dear Diary,
Things have not been so bright and rosy today as they have been over the past couple of day, mainly due to me not being very well, trust me to be ill for Christmas, eh? Life did go on with me having to do some work and think on my feet about what this Elf can do next. However, we have achieved another no spend day which must be something of a record for me.
On the debt busting front, I received a letter regarding my second Full and Final which will be renegotiated once again, my final offer before I offer the money to another creditor. Here's hoping it gets sorted this time. Still, I cannot deny I'm a little disappointed that I will not have this one paid before Christmas.

For me its how people hold their cutlery...........especially when they hold it as if they where holding a pen:eek: I have to suppress the urge to go round tables in restaurants and give them a lesson......I could never be a waiter:D
BTW children who are learning to write and are LH should be sitting at chairs that are at least 2 inches higher then their RH class mates....I would say this goes for accomplished writers too as this helps the 'hunched over' sitting I am led to believe.Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Sorry to hear you are feeling below par Alex - hope Christmas goes off well. There are may of us with long term health stuff but we just have to make the best of it if we can.:rotfl: Of course, can't say I've ever bought clothing from a supermarket ... Lots of clothes stuff in supermarkets I couldn't afford - let alone turn my nose up at.
Nothing wrong with their stuff actually. Might not have fancy labels but quite serviceable - its sort of 'don't judge a book by its cover' all over again.
Have you given your Elf flu yet? Some people do - with him in a little bed with tissues and medicine - of course he has to get better quickly!!Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -
