Alex I don't think Iwillsucceed was suggesting a job - just a change of attitude.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0

I did feel a little annoyed with my parents after meeting them for lunch to discuss my son's birthday party because "of course" we "couldn't possibly" hold a small treasure hunt and a few nibbles at my house.
I think this is what people mean Alex - you are giving away power for your own family - thats what they mean by 'man up'. You don't have to debate things with your parents - your family is now yourself, wife and son.
Why be annoyed - take control and do what you want for once. They might not like it - but they would have to learn to live with it if you lived your own life a bit more.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -

Thank you and yes, I see your point.Mrs. K. wants to have the get together here as she wants to invite both sets of grandparents and doesn't see the point in having our son's birthday party anywhere else. To an extent I agree. However, I also see my parents' point: their house is much nicer than mine and whilst the people we invite may look down on my place, I doubt they'd do such a thing at parents' house.

Errrr no, no, no... I do not think they or particularly I refer to getting a proper job when we suggest to 'man up'....I mean to STAND UP!! to stand up to your parent's put downs, manipulation, etc, etc.. !!
The day I read your mother calling your wife's parents 'scummies'?, I felt sick! (money does not buy class) indeed. To be honest, I thought, how dear him allowing his parent's stating that and in front of his wife? I personally if a were a man and not being a woman I could ever allow my parents being so disrespectful of my partner. How would you feel standing up to your parents? could you envisage the situation?
By the way, as always you do not have to answer to the above!
Though very content that your wife walked away without buying a car!! and you both working on your expenses! great!!!
Sorry, Iwillsucceed but I'm afraid I am unable to "man up" and get myself a proper job, sometimes I wish I could. However, I am more than aware going back to working full time is not really an option for me, I have talked about this with my wife and she understands. No debts 🙌0 -

I told them I found that inappropriate, Iwillsucceed.
However, why would it be acceptable (in your world) for my wife's parents to be rude to me but not the other way round?

A little confused by your post, Iwillsucceed
. However, there are times I understand where you are coming from in regard to wanting to condemn all four. :rotfl:

You don't need your parents' permission to have your son's birthday party at your own home rather than at their house. If anyone would genuinely 'look down' on you, then don't invite them, simple.0
