Well done on the first F&F letter... fingers crossed.

Wrt to gas/elec, try putting your details in here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cheapenergyclub

It'll show you how much you can save, and you can decide whether it's worth switching. I switched earlier in the year and managed to get a deal that locks me into a rate until next July. It really wasn't that much hassle - just needed to send meter readings to my new supplier, and they did everything else (even cancelling with my old supplier for me).
    Mortgage when started: £330,995

Good site - we had a look through that earlier - and there seemed some good prices.
    I then went through topcashback.....

I thought our bills were bad enough - our neighbour lives in a 1 bed bungalow (gas heating and cooking) - his bill for Jan to March was £384.00

I just could't believe it, - apparently the rest of the bills had been estimated that yr, and he wasn't aware he could ring with a meter reading.

Alex - Would say your in good hands (not sure if thats a compliment or not) my dad wont change companies - British Gas for Gas and NPower for the Gas... too old to change...

Well done on the 1st F+F. they can always say no, and you can up if you can, but its the hardest bit - starting the negotiations xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

Well that was rather silly if you ask me. ;)

Reckon I need help re. the gas and electric, completely helpless with it and god knows why I feel some kind of loyalty towards British Gas. :o

The Chesterfield is coming along nicely, though is not a chaise (you can get all sorts in Chesterfield style ... even a bar :rotfl:, now that is a little bit ...). I'm well enough, been working all day and still have things to do tonight (paperwork).

Hello? Loyalty to BG? *faints*. To be fair it took me a long while to get my head around switching utilities but we cut our bills by nearly half switching to Eon from BG and EDF. Robbers the lot of them and I would rather donate the saving to charity than line their fatcat pockets. I know Eon are from the same FC group but to jump about seems to pay off.

We do keep our bills low Old style as we are children of the 70's so to be cold indoors in winter is sort of normal. We just wear more clothes and move more. :)

Thank you everybody re. the utilities. This most likely sounds rather silly but I've been with British Gas since I moved into this house and parents are also with them, though on Sunday they were talking of switching after the price hike news.

Us too...but we have a good boiler service program with them. Gonna weigh up the pros and cons!

What do you pay annually? Now you are a fully fledged Mse-er, you will know this figure off by heart ;)

If your tarriff hasn't changed and you have just stayed with them you could be paying top dollar...as it's these customers who subsidise the 'switchers'. The old idea that if one is a loyal, good paying customer, you will merit a better deal and service is long gone sadly.

Just do a switch here...I did it from a link on this site and got a cheque for £30 about 10 weeks later that came as a total surprise. My 1st experience of cashback and I didn't even know I had qualified.
It was dead easy and took about 10 mins online.

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Tuesday 22nd October, 2013.
    Day 52.

    Dear Diary,

Today I have allowed myself to become immersed in my work, forgetting about other issues that seem to be surrounding my life at the moment. Admittedly, in many ways it was a selfish thing to do but by taking that step back, I realised why I am doing this; that is running a business without much as a reward. Even so, should I manage to get debt free and quit the exuberant spending I have promised myself an incentive in the form of a bonus come the end of 2014 and recognised that £1,000 per month is perhaps a payment I need to review at the start of the new year.

I would also like to say thank you to everybody who has been supportive on this thread, having ventured out into another part of the forum, I have realised that unfortunately not all members are so kind as the Debt Free Wannabees. Talking of which, my debt free activities today have consisted of sending off my first full and final letter in an effort to begin negotiations with one of the collection agencies and telling Mrs. K. Should she decide to spend £3,000 on a classic car, I will need to see £1,500 back in the debt pot from her selling things of her own.

    Summary:
    -£55.53 LR Diesel.

    Yours Faithfully,
    Alex.

Just under £1800 for both. :)

No idea on the tariff, I just get a quarterly bill. I shall have a look online in a moment, thank you.

  • To be fair, we are very gentle to you on this thread! I did try and nudge them over here as it explains your full situation :)

I do still think you're under your parents' thumb and Mrs K. is rebelling against that...but that's something you will have to eventually see for yourself.

EDIT: Ask BG about the servicing programme. Mr HBS sorted it out before I moved in and it's good apparently :)
