Of course !! but the way the op was asking I assumed his partner were changing their name.0 -

On your wedding your wife will become your surname.
Is it like magic? Does it happen at midnight, or as soon as they sign the register? Fancy becoming a surname...I'd rather become a super-model or a Nobel Prize winner. Although with my luck, I'd become a shoe, or a slug or something.0 -
It didn't make sense to me either. :huh:0

I choose to take my husbands surname for everything - thought about it a lot! Difficult decision.
An easier one was my title - I have bn Ms for years. I don't think its the business of people I don't know - who handle my post, application forms etc whether I am married or not.
Anyhow, marriage certificate seems to be enough for now to change my name at the bank, doctors etc.:j got married 3rd May 2013 :beer:0 -
This link is quite good at explaining it:

I plan on keeping my professional name and then being Mrs Married.
Unfortunately I forgot to plan on getting engaged and then married but i'll get there!Current debt: M&S £0(£2K) , Tesco £0 (£1.5K), Car loan 6K (paid off!) Barclaycard £1.5K (interest free for 18 months)0 -
Marriage certificate is enough. It gets awkward if you wish to join your surnames. We were in the fortunate position of my wife hating her maiden name and liking my surname which actually went better with her given name.2018 totals:
Savings £11,200
Mortgage Overpayments £5,5000 -

Its amazing how many women hate their surnames and how few men do.0 -
I am slowly changing things over. Everything at work is now in my married name (though I did give a caller my maiden name today and had to correct myself).
Stuff like my bank account ect I haven't got round to yet but I will eventually. Everyone I have spoke to though has said the marriage cert is enough.First Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0
