Just make sure that you have new stock! (the later G series) Unfortunately the older versions can't be upgraded according to a Dimplex engineer.

I've ordered my first Quantum and QRAD (for bedroom) from electricpoint. Will report back on install and efficiency.

for those whom went ahead with Dimplex Quantam or similar.
Any recommendations on arranging removal of existing old school storage heater and disposal or recycle.
    thanks
I had one collected by the council along with two other old appliances for £5, though they left the bricks behind!  A neighbour soon snapped them up.  You need to be aware of the risk of asbestos insulation in very old NSHs, which would need a specialist company to dispose of.

    UPDATE:

One QRAD and One QM125RF storage heater now installed. Installation of both was fairly simple - just the odd holes not quite lining up with the QM when putting back together. Setting of timers I found to be very easy indeed. Both been operational for 24 hours though weather has been good - so very little activity to meet the 22 and 23 Deg C settings.

One thing I will say - ELECTRICPOINT were a nightmare. Delivery states 2/3 days - after 5 I started chasing - getting a response was a challenge - then I had to chase daily. I finally got a response after targetting their facebook and twitter accounts threatening Trading Standards. In the end - I was refunded the QRAD cost as a goodwill gesture - which was great - until it didn't turn up with the SH! Lost in the post apparently - they despatched another which arrived the next day. Considering ordering the next 3 QMs elsewhere as it was extremely challenging & hard work dealing with them.

    Thanks.
Looking forward to fitting three Quantums soon. I’ll probably use HWelectric or TLCdirect.

    UPDATE:
x4 Quantums and x1 QRAD now installed and operational. They are very easy to install and set up. I also bought the hub and am using the Dimplex app which i find to be really good and pretty simple and make the set-up of new units even easier. I can now monitor the temperatures, schedules and energy usage at my parents flat from the comfort of my own home. One of the Quantums could not have a separate night rate so i have used a single day rate supply and the advanced settings charge timer to charge the unit overnight. I have taught my dad to use the simpler functions on the app and he loves that he can "boost" anywhere in the flat from his armchair.
After Electricpoint first order errors - they made it up with a refund of the complete cost of the QRAD and fast-tracked my second order.
All-in-all a good experience and the whole package installed for £3k. I will update again after next winter on warmth & running costs.
    Cheers,

    Cheers,
Hi - an interesting thread... we have been looking at replacing the existing night storage heaters which we inherited in January. British Gas were charging us the wrong way round on the rate... sorted that BUT the previous owners had been paying it the wrong way round for 4 years!

A few questions if I may:

    1. Are they dead easy to install ie undo old rad and wire new one in?
    2. Do you need a Quantum installer as Dimplex infer or just a qualified spark to do the work?
    3. Does the night rate cover other appliances and not just the night storage heaters? ie we have an immersion heater on the tank so if the timer is set for the night rate do we get the night rate on that? Never dealt with Economy 7 before so this is all new to me.
    4. Our hot water tank doesn't have the lower E7 immersion heater for hot water... do you or do you have something else? We don't have gas anywhere near us... fab fibre broadband though LOL  :D
Apologies if they seem dumb questions.

    Thanks in advance

Any qualified electrician should have no problem installing these. (Definitely no need for a Quantum engineer-- the heaters come with very detailed instructions) If the E7 setup is up to date then ALL appliances benefit from the low rate.(Some old setups did not do this so get your electrician to check!) There should be a separate switched circuit that only becomes live during the 7 hr period but as Kanzac pointed out the latest Quantum units have a built in  time clock that can be used if necessary. V IMPORTANT though- each heater should be on a separate "spur" - not just connected to the standard ring main! To get the full benefit of E7 you do need to ensure that your hot water is primarily heated during the   7 hours- if you have an old single element tank which is poorly insulated then you should upgrade that as well. I also installed the Quantum mains pressure hot water system- expensive but worth it IMHO. Not having gas is not a  major disadvantage if you have efficient appliances and reasonable insulation- in a few years it will be illegal to install gas anyway!

    Cheers,

    Good to know.
I’m looking at 3 Quantums and the hub. I may add QRADs also later but I have some cheap convectors for now.
I have no E7 circuit for the NSHs so will need to add a supplementary board and wiring for them.

Was hoping to have ducted Aircon installed but not having much luck with that. Will be a lot more expensive too.

Many thanks for this - really helpful. We have a split board E7 on one side and the rest on the other... our water tank is a modern well insulated tank with a single element, I guess put the timer to heat up during the night for an hour and not the afternoon as the previous owners had. Ideally we want an unvented system in order to remove the cold water tank from the loft... an unvented would give us better hot water pressure in the bathroom as well. Bonus!
