@kanzac They must have changed it. I don't claim any benefits at all and the criteria when I looked it up at the time said you could get them if you earned £26,000 or less. That's how I qualified. The fitters asked me and had to fill in a form.

Worth calling to enquire and find our if it has changed and is there any way they could qualify for free heaters.

One thing I'm unsure about is what to add in the main bedroom. The existing panel heaters seem as old as the SH's and "tick" noisily which drives my dad up the wall.
Could be the switch type thermostat and/or the casing expanding/contracting.
An electric rad with a digital thermostat would be quieter.

For the bedroom - I'm now looking at Dimplex QRAD200 - anyone any experience of these being good temperature controlling and reasonable running costs?

Not had any experience with them but looks like it has exactly the same controls as my Dimplex PLXE panel heater.

I've installed a couple of slightly smaller versions of the QRAD panel heaters in my bedrooms- I only use them in the coldest part of winter but they are a big improvement on the earlier designs- like the Quantum storage heaters the temperature control is much more accurate.  Heat-up time is much shorter as they use a combination of convection and radiation. Of course running cost will be higher though as they use 24h power supply,

I've read in some Quantum literature that the QRAD uses off peak electricity? Surely this is true ONLY if you require heat from it between 00:00-07:00?

I think that you have misunderstood the Quantum  literature- Q-Rads have NO STORAGE capability. The only way they could be powered on "cheap-rate" would be to either wire them into a switched supply OR set the inbuilt time switch to ONLY tun them on during the off-peak times (which would be unlikely to coincide with requirements for heat)

Thanks - I thought so. I think it's a confusing spec sheet - with the Q-RAD discussed but stating features of the Quantum SH!

  • It's been nice entertaining topic to read guys. Thank you for all your input!

I was going to replace my old creda storage heaters for new dimplex and just wondering why no one has ever put new xle series. Quantum seems to be a tech couple years old now isn't it? 😉
