@kanzac BTW if you are after the ability to control them using an app, be aware that you have to buy a separate piece of equipment to attach to the heater before you can do this. I think they cost around £130 or something. They don't come for free under the scheme I posted about either.

The storage heaters have the place roasting in the morning - 27/28 Deg C - and run out of heat in the evening meaning they use peak rate panel and convection heaters fitter around the flat.
I assume the 27/28 Deg C is an unavoidable problem rather than a plus. That size storage heater is the largest capacity in the range and, as you say, they’re heating the room when it’s not needed.

Hi kanzac, welcome along.  Can I ask:  are you setting the output controls to the minimum overnight and during the day?

Your plan to add a Quantum to the existing installation sounds sensible and should allow it to take over heating in the evening without use of expensive peak-rate heaters; sounds like a good way forward.

One thing to be aware of is the total current budget though.  If your parents' place already has 4 x 3.4 kW NSHs plus 3 kW heater in the pulsacoil, then that is already nearly 70 amps of current.  It depends on the electrical installation, but adding further off-peak consumers could exceed the capacity of the installation.

I was under the impression that the new Quantums were replacing the old heaters.

That was my impression too. Replace one first to see if it is suitable, then replace the rest, rather than add more.

Yes - I was aware and thought - if I do end up with all 4 replaced with Quantums - and settled in well - only then will I fork out for the App available gadgetry.

Yes - I've "trained my parents to set the dial to 1 as they go to bed - the morning heat - lovely for them as it is - is leakage.

Yes - the old 3.4kW units will be removed - one at a time - as I add the Quantums - so the total draw will only ever be lower than it is now.

One thing I'm unsure about is what to add in the main bedroom. The existing panel heaters seem as old as the SH's and "tick" noisily which drives my dad up the wall.

@kanzac Before you go splashing out any money on these, check if your parents  could qualify for this government scheme to get them for free. This is how I got mine.
Sadly they dont receive benefits of any kind so are ruled out of every grant I've come across :-(

They installed a Dimplex PLXE panel heater in my bedroom. It sometimes clicks a bit when cooling down but  I think that is because the fixings aren't as tight as they should be. Had it refitted once and is better but still not completely stopped. They use poor flimsy brackets. Silent otherwise. Works similarly to storage heater regarding setting temperature and timers.

You don't have to be on benefits. You qualify if you earn £26,000 or less. Check out all the criteria. They might meet one of them.

It is a government scheme to make sure everyone has adequate heating.
