Watty, I don't *need* two, but I'm keeping two - one is Mastercard, one is Visa ... with the number of programming and online problems these days, one of them might be down when I need to buy something. I don't really spend for the sake of it, so it doesn't endanger me ...

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Yes, I've kept my two as well - also, now my personal income is very low, if I applied for a new one, I'd be declined, I'm sure

Good point about the two cards. I could keep this one as an 'emergency' card. Pity I've torn it up now :)
But yeah could ask them to send another and just not use.
I do actually have one credit card and one American express card but the Amex card isn't always accepted places so it does make sense to have two.
Was so annoyed about the 19p interest that I was going to bin them but on reflection you all have a point.
Hope they split the 19 p between you all !!
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

  • Hi Watty1
I have a debt card, an Emergency Fund and no credit cards. It means no overspending on credit and I feel safe with cash on hand for any little problems that should come along.
Does the idea of no credit cards scary you?
By the way, your mortgage payoff is amazing!!! Not far to go now!!!

Have checked accounts and am going to cancel one credit card. I don't really need two cards and once again they have charged me interest. No idea why - payment was not late - but really am not going to phone up for 19 pence but am just going to canx the card.

Hey Watty below £50k that is brilliant. I have no credit cards but I am thinking that I will get one of each whilst I am still working so that I can do a bit of mortgage stoozing if the rates go mad. I will be fully paid off in four years but stoozing could make it three I think, I need to spend a bit of time with the calculator. A friend has the Amex for the BA companion flights points thing. They have an amazing holiday about every eighteen months with free flights.

Oh yes! I was once stuck in Ireland with a card that the bank had helpfully blocked because it had been used outside the UK and no other cards, no cash because I had used up all my Euros at the airport and then Sleazyjet cancelled the flight. 10 pm at night and no money and a mobile phone that wouldn't work either. Not fun. A second credit card would have been really useful. Luckily the airline provided a hotel and I told the hotel I had no way of paying for food and they gave me breakfast and then, to get to the airport the next day, I told the bus driver he could give me a free trip or I could beg the passengers for the fare :rotfl: He gave me a free trip. Luckily at the airport I found someone I knew who bought me food so I was ok til the evening - but - the experience taught me that one card is never enough - the idea of being without cards would be way too scary :)
