A million apologies for not subscribing before ... I'm going to subscribe to everyone I "know" on mfw, while the kettle's boiling
Done this now - I'm really interested in your 3.5 acres and what you do, so I'll have to read through gradually2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Lovely to see you here Karmacat. I'll save you a read
The 3.5 acres are used by Handsome Baby (the horse I ride) and the Retired Fell Pony.
Decided to get back to financial planning after catching up on here and wanting to retire early like Fell Pony and lots of others.
After a day reviewing the financials I can say that my retirement plans will not provide a gentle life of good care like Retired Fell Pony whilst grass may be all I can afford to eat !
Also have concluded that the two financial advisors I have sought advice from where blooming useless and I would have been better just asking Ed over on his thread.
Ah If only I had know what I know now 20 years ago....Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

That must be so disappointing for you
Have you got any of the land set aside to grow food? Or even coppice trees for firewood? (You can tell what I dream of ...). And can you change around any of your investments?2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Karmacat, I once had a very large veg patch but it was so much work that I turned it over to a small orchard. It now looks beautiful
and is very little work.
Once I am retired I am sure I can find a patch of land to grow food on, there is a wasteland behind the stables that could keep chickens and grow veggies.
We've already burnt all the wood here and now are burning old fence postsI might look into coppice trees though - good thought

I understand what you mean, absolutely, about time and work, and an orchard sounds wonderful! Trees do so much for so little input from us2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Spent a few hours last night reviewing finances after realising financial planning for the future has not been great.
I've calculated that by the age of 68 I will get a sensible income. This is based on the mortgage on our old house (currently let) being paid off and the rent income being real income - and - my pension being paid into until I am 60 - and then being drawn out as a pension plus some meagre pickings off a state pension which I am unlikely to be entitled to much of having spent my working life 'contracted out' whilst not actually doing any serious pension planning.
More financial reviewing taking place here over next hours to come up with plans!
This might have started out as diary to clear the mortgage but goodness it has become a whole big financial adventureMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

I now have a very pretty mindmap.

Mindmaps are my idea of hell!! My DD loves them, but when I was doing my aromatherapy diploma the tutor made us do them all the time - and I struggle with them, as they are just not how I see things/ learn! Because that was how SHE liked things done, we all had to produce them
I can appreciate that they are a useful aid to some, though!:D
