Still exploring BTL. Looked at some properties as part of the research. Why do estate agents lie???? Rhetorical question I suppose but I do wonder why. Looked at a very nice house and estate agent assured me rent would be £950. Why then was next door rented a month ago for £850?? Then looked at a flat, estate agent assured me could be rented for £725 to £750. Now this bit is accurate but not in the state it is in - hasn't been touched since the 70s! I mentioned this to the estate agent who showed me around who said it would be fine as was....err?? Really then why have all the others at that price been done up I wonder. Honestly!!!
Whatever happened to truthful selling and/or honest advice from a specialist??Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

I think they lie because they hope they can get away with it.
More people are clued up these days, what with the interest etc, so I think the estate agents and similar take a calculated risk.
Either they are caught out, and the prospective customer goes elsewhere, or they lure people in with the lies. They must feel it is lucrative enough to catch the odd unsuspecting innocent, and risk losing the more savvy customer (who are probably more trouble to deal with, as they are more difficult to fool!)
It's a poor state of affairs!Early retired - 18th December 2014

Christmas over. Highlights: the candle lit church service at 6 pm on Christmas Eve, dinner with friends Christmas Day Evening, my dog and friends dogs being so beautifully behaved and having fun, seeing the local hunt set out boxing day morning and the most fabulous gift of a subscription to the Horse and Hound from a friend. Couldn't believe he had given me that. What a lovely man!
Mr Watty totally stressed over his mother and as a result I spent a fortune of food for every eventuality - but - that's ok. Its Christmas and we will eat it up somehow.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
