Thank you all for the welcome back. Wrote the report for the solicitor. Seeing counsel tomorrow (by zoom). Just browsed back in diary and see that I did seem to be at wits end often but always pulled back from the brink until this summer. All those months in lockdown turned my brain. Lockdown released and I went out with friends, had a lovely time, walked back in the house and knew I would not stay. Rented a fabulous place to live and moved out. Rollercoaster! Most Handsome refused to settle in new place and all very fraught. 6 months later I am back living and working in the cottage with horses and Mr Watty lives in a rental nearby. He doesn't really accept what has happened and seems to think this is "just another stage". Well it is, but in an ending way. I'm often very conflicted that it has come to this and wish it had not. But it has. I'm dealing with the emotional fallout as best I can. And after careful thought I realise I personally paid the majority of the overpayments. Ed did sometimes mention pension provision - but - what I never really connected with is that unmarried couples have no rights. I thought I was building a future for two, Mr Watty assured me he would never take advantage but when the crunch comes joint properties are 50/50 regardless of who paid what. And my lack of savings and pension provision is down to me. I've seen a couple of solicitors. My cautionary tale to all unmarried MFW is be careful. Dont assume it will never happen to you that you part because you can and may. And the law is not on your side. If you are married then 50/50 applies to everything but if you are just co-habiting then if, like me, you do all the overpaying you will be stuffed if crunch time comes. I'm meeting a barrister tomorrow to see what my chances would be if I take the matter further and ask a court to take the view that I have been financially disadvantaged and that should be corrected.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!5 -
Hope all that stuff runs smoothly for you x

Oh watty
very sad that it's come to this for you, but how awful that you're also being undermined by the law
Does proof of who made what payment make any difference? I really hope the barrister can point out a few ways forward for you.
