Now I dont know much about making soap but I do think the osteopath sounds brilliant and just what you need to get your body ready to get stronger. How very symbolic!
Hadn't thought of it like that but yes. And thanks for pointing it out. I feel inspired to do the exercises now rather than just down about the pain.

Suffolk Lass got me researching waste and what happens to it locally. Virtually all of the household waste is turned into fuel in this area. There is a lot of publicity about how plastics including food cartons are recycled and how plastics should be put into recyling bins but nothing (and no one could tell me) about how and where this actually happens and after watching the BBC series 'War on Waste" I'm suspicious. But as both local and county council claim tiny percentages are going to landfill (and only that that cannot be burnt or recycled) then it surely makes more sense to put the plastic in the general rubbish than the recycling bin.
The more I think about it the more I realise that what concerns me now I know about what happens to the rubbish is the household 'overconsumption'. In my 20s I lived in a bedsit for about 3 years. Most stuff was kept over the washbasin or on 3 shelves behind the door. I had a wardrobe, a chest of drawers a bedside cabinet and a desk which doubled as a table and anything that required a flat surface. A small TV sat at the end of the bed on a coffee table and there was a long shelf over the bed I used for books. It worked.
My next home was a shared flat. Gorgeous big flat that 4 of us shared. Again my space was limited.
By my mid to late 20s I had bought a townhouse to rennovate. There was still a lot of space in my bathroom cupboard (and only 1cupboard at that). My rubbish consisted of one bag each week and a bag with the used cat litter in.
Roll on today and the astounding thing is I have 2 recycling bins, 1 general waste bin, a food composting bin and 2 garden waste bins. In order to fill this lot this house must be generating a lot of waste! And that must mean a lot of overconsumption.

Now the garden waste bins I can rule out because there is a large garden and it is more economic than me taking the garden waste to the tip and with 3 horses I really produce way more magic muck than I will ever need.
My business produces a lot of paper and card waste so one recycling bin a fortnight is probably full of that.
But still I am generating way more rubbish than 20 years ago and that can only mean overconsumption which must mean a waste of money somewhere

Now .... we have you captive :) Prepare for the questions :)

Definately interested ... and thinking ahead I could maybe make my own christmas gifts this year (dont you love my optomistic outlook here, I've not yet made a thing but have a firm belief when I do it will be wonderful enough to gift :rotfl:)

I'm definately coming back to this one
I am thinking about gifts etc for Christmas and doing individual hampers for different people, I have these ideas every year and it hasn't happened yet :rotfl:

Re the rubbish, we used to fill a lot from our old house. I know it is now just me but in my household bin I have one rubbish bag every two weeks, my paper is hardly anything if I haven't gone overboard on the spending. However the plastic while less than the last house is still a crazy amount and my garden one is full each time it is emptied. Eventually I intend to have a compost bin but I will still need to dispose of stuff in there. I would like to reduce the plastics but some of it I am finding tough to do, starting with the toiletries would be good for me.

I thought a really simple soap would start me off and I am very interested in what greent thinks - my recipe was this one but I prefer the instructions the way they are explained in this link - only slightly irritating but it is very clear. I had watched 8 clips at this stage and read about 20 web-sites - I like the simplicity.

I will be trying it on Tuesday week...

Definitely overconsumption: my house, a semi detached, was built in 1939, with 3 bedrooms. I live here alone, and there's only just enough storage for me on my own. Some is useful: I've got a lot of my mother's stuff, waiting for me to use when my own gets worn out. And whereas we used to have toothbrushes and toothpaste, now we also have floss and interdens brushes. And maybe electric brushes too.

Thanks for these SL - middle of next week, I think, for me - consumption should definitely go down.

If any of you want to try some of mine - let me know (PM with address) and I will post you a try-out - if it is nice I might use some of the Christmas bags I usually use for fudge/shortbread/mince pies for soaps this year as gifts. I took the rash step of buying an industrial sized (for me) bottle of eucalyptus oil for my next batch (assumes this won't flay your skin )

I am still keen for greent's endorsement, given her greater expertise as I am a complete novice - I just find it rather satisfying and want to do some more (but want to know it is safe and good).

A very belated Welcome Back, :o

I still don't seem to have much time to post, although I do read during the week and post mostly at weekends.

As for the decluttering the bathroom, that is about the only place where I do not have much clutter in, (oh, hold on, wait to I get me halo :rotfl:) I usually buy the XL size if I can, then decanter into a small one which I keep to reuse.

My shelves are in the shape of rowing boats ** (the bottom is the back) with a couple of shelves in the middle with a few knick knacks on them all seaside themed, anchor, sailing boat etc, and I only keep my shampoo, conditioner, shower creme, and face wash in there. I may have my hair dye there too :o

Then there's my toothpaste, toothbrush, mouth wash and soap at the sink, and that is it. Bare minimum for me and I'm really happy with that. I keep moisturiser, deodorant else where.

** Which just happens to be where I got my A Frayed Knot name from :D (Afraid not) so now you know.
