Just popping in to say hi and hope you're doing well Watty xxMFW

Mr Watty is back from his holiday with the dog. He has gone to work and the dog is here. I'd forgotten how peaceful it was without the dog. Dog has had a long walk but still does not settle. And is back to guarding the entire neighbourhood and barking at everything. I am trying work and honestly am at wits end. It is so unprofessional having him bark his heart out while I'm trying to talk on the phone.
Don't get me wrong the dog is lovely but he just isn't wired as a pet dog. He would make a fabulous working dog. He just wont settle with an office worker ....is fine when out and about all day.
However the real breaking straw is that the final night of Mr Watty's trip was spent with his brother - and - together they have cocked up a plan whereby Mr Watty will give his inheritance to brothers sons so that "they do not have to struggle" because "life is hard for the young"
I range between utter fury, despair and a strong desire to pack my bags and leave the lot of them to it including the barking dog.
That this disposal of funds (yet to materialise) could be worked out without taking me into account is outrageous. And disrespectful. So disrespectful that although I am urging myself not to do anything dramatic I do admit to having a deep desire just to pack my bags and go (with feral kitten obviously).Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
Oh Watty
. What on earth is Mr Watty thinking? I am so sorry he has made this decision without even consulting you. I would feel exactly as you are and want to tell him to f*** off!
And, I'm sorry, but what complete rubbish. Life is not "hard" for the young. So many of them unfortunately have lived entitled lives, pampered by parents who wrap them in cotton wool, rather than just getting out there and grafting. I am 31 years old - many of my peers still rent and moan about how hard it is. I bought my first house at 21 - when they were drinking their spare money away. It's all about choices. I've had two jobs since I was 15 years old, no spare money in our house (single parent family, mum was a low paid nurse) so if I didn't earn it, we didn't have it.
Rant over, sorry. I'm just incensed on your behalf xxxMFW

Oh Watty
Mr Watty's brother can give HIS children HIS share of the inheritance when it materialises! Sounds to me like brother is the one gaining
(and that would be the brother who hasn't helped out at all, I think?) Sure - I can 'get' Mr Watty leaving his nephews something - but that's at some future point in time (unless you decide to get super cross with him first!)
Am hoping Mr Watty sees sense once he has time away from it - possible manipulation by brother? Weird guilt feelings from Mr Watty for some twisted logic unexplainable reason?

Rant away ….. I actually agree with you. I’m sure our parents thought life was tough when they were young, as did our grandparents and our great grandparents. There are choices to be made and like you say the kids have made theirs ....
And if their parents feel they need a helping hand, well, lets just say they could provide it! S-i-L has never actually done a full time job so I think that says it all really …….

Thanks for the reminder. I love this line and I’m just printing it out in big print to put up on the office wall J

Yes!! That’s it……

I think you have hit the nail on the head here perfectly. Weird guilt feelings from Mr Watty who doesn’t feel he deserves anything and manipulation from the brother.
All mixed in with my feeling that a line has been crossed which it shouldn’t have been. As our wills are at present the kids stand to inherit nicely in due course and that is how it should be ……… all in good time my lovelies.
Honestly I really have had enough of Mr Watty’s family now. His mother thinks and says I am no good for Mr Watty because I push him and make him work hard yet I still very nicely help her out, make sure she never spends Christmas on her own, take her feelings into account, make sure has proper birthday celebrations blah de blah, the nephews send the odd whatsapp but my good nature has been sorely tested by them in the past and the brother really has stepped over a line this time ….oh and lets just add while I am in full moan flight that once again he will be visiting “sometime before Christmas” to give his mother a christmas present so he doesn’t have to see her at Christmas and he will just leave her in her flat while he comes home to his family party. (He knows I will step in with the old girl and not leave her!)
I may have washed my hands of the lot of them by then. Only time will tell how this one unfolds but after a long night out with girlfriend have decided that all my efforts to overpay are now stopping for a while. I have lost the appetite and will to work on our financial future in this landscape.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Despite loss of will and appetite for clearing mortgage I will keep on posting ....if only for somewhere to rant.
Am considering buying some premium bonds with the small amount I was going to overpay this week. I may win a million which I could give to my nieces :rotfl:Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Sounds like a brilliant plan.
I'm ranting right there with you...what on earth!!! I hope Mr Watty realises how ridiculous all of this is, and/or his brother/family stop being jerks. (Probably less likely, but you never know!)

Oh Watty! After you've worked so hard, on your financial future and on Mr Watty's family's obligations to their own elderly members!
This deal has just been done, right? Maybe it can be undone? You know, "Mr Watty, did you think about our relationship, our needs?" etc? As the wonderful Captain Awkward says, "use your words".
I feel for you.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
