That sounds like a lovely 'service' and a great price. The funeral director sounds lovely too.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Thank you for your reply, Watty, I hope it was okay that I asked that. It's clear that you've done an absolutely wonderful job of treading a very narrow path between conflicting situations, while you've got your own stuff going on too.
The 20 minutes in the chapel sound very appropriate, very lovely.
Thinking of you.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Thanks.
I do so hope someone plays the archers theme at my funeral...love your choices there Applemuncher.
Death registered today. Then took Mr Watty for lunch at a caf! nearby that I love, it is a charity caf! that provides work for people with physical and mental issues, set in its own organic garden where it grows a lot of the food served in the caf!. Was served by a lovely deaf lady and had marrow and lentil soup and Mr Watty had a cheese and potato pie with salad followed by coffee and cake. All yum. £15 spent and such a great cause. Sunny day so sat in the sun and felt positively rested. Back to work now .....Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -

Are you putting the accent on the 'e'? Or typing on a tablet rather than a laptop/pc with separate keyboard?NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0

Maybe the spiders swapped your keys round behind your back?
So sorry for what you've gone through. Understanding that it is Mr Watty's step dad makes him seem
not callous for not coming home early. Grr to your MIL. Someone always decides it is about them.
Grr to the brother too (eye on the main chance?). Final grr to the sexist pig of a funeral director (I've a
lovely colleague who says in shocked tones "I am NOT your darling actually").0 -
And that lunch at the charity caff (see what I did there
) sounds wonderful. Cheese and onion pie ... mmmm ...

Mr Watty at work today. I have done housework as cleaner on hols and watched a bit of TV and now the day seems nearly done. Not sure how that happened?
Did spend a fair chunk of time online trying to find executor for Mr W's stepdad's will. On the plus side there is a will, on the minus there is no sign of the executor who once lived next door to him 17 years ago. He retired to the coast and .... seems to have vanished. Hopefully Mr Watty will remember something else about him so we can find him. If not I think we will need to visit a solicitor which will hold the process up I daresay.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Actually I have no idea what one does if one can't find an executor (there is only one named). I have interviewed google but if anyone actually does know please do comment as this looks like it could be complicated and we already have forms asking us for things from the executor .......Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

This looks helpful, watty: https://www.gov.uk/wills-probate-inheritance/if-the-person-left-a-will - looks like contacting your local probate office is the first step - I found ours very helpful when I've dealt with queries before.
Also found this:
http://www.death-duties.co.uk/content/executors-and-administrators - specifically this bit - "If there is a valid will but no executors
If a valid will exists the only people who can become executors and apply for a Grant of Probate are people named as executors in the will. If there are no executors named, or if they all renounce the position, or they have all died or are incapable of carrying out the role then the will still stands but its wishes must be carried out by an administrator, rather than an executor. This would normally be the beneficiary entitled to the residue of the estate and the process is called Administration with Will Annexed. One exception to this is if a sole executor is incapable of carrying out the role due to mental incapacity. If an enduring power of attorney exists then the attorney can act on the executor's behalf and also apply for Probate unless the Court of Protection has already appointed an executor. You may wish to consult a solicitor in this instance."
Not hugely helpful - but looks like Probate office is first point of call by phone - and then the beneficiary (Mr Watty?) may be able to apply for Administration with Will Annexed
