. Though I think Mr Watty and you both might be more shattered than you might expect. Be kind to yourselves.

Well I can't speak for Mr Watty but I am shattered this morning.

MFW breakthrough moment. I know I set Easter for being MF and didn't make that but I an neutral so that's cool .... but ... I now have a new scrimp and save target. I want to do this ourselves...and it is likely there will be a little cash from Mr Watty's step-dads estate (it will be split between sons and grandsons).

It occurred to me this morning that having worked so hard to get MF I would like us to achieve that by our own ends and not have the final hurdle cleared by a cash gift if one does actually happen. So even with all that is going on I am now on a mission. Will be back later to update targets and maybe even with plans.

.... plus the papers he kept - newspapers, all junk mail, all letters put back into their envelopes....
    That's A Thing, isn't it

I don't know why, but it really is. I created an extra six inches on the recycling pile by getting rid of medical appointment letters - even just the anonymous bits, the confidential pieces went to the burn pile.

The plans sound interesting, Watty, I'll look forward to reading :)

Not sure about that, I am exhausted now. Nice hack on Most Handsome. Did mean to talk to farmer about why Fell Pony won't eat the hay ...but ran out of day ... but funeral planned, work mostly caught up with if I do another hour this evening and all the medical bits gone from cottage. Just emptied a lot of stock onto office shelves as will take boxes down to cottage tomorrow to do a bit more. had also meant to go to shop and buy hayledge for pony not eating hay ...but... out of time so will just have to cross fingers that he eats it tonight if I don't soak it and also will not making running club tonight sadly as totally out of time for that too...... but positives, funeral sorted out so supported Mr Watty on that and I found time for hack with lovely neighbour so had a good gossip whilst out - and - I used new saddle ....well I only bought it a couple of years ago :rotfl: but the time to try it was today :)

Blimey! That was a long list! Good that you got even half of that done :)

  • Well done sorting out the funeral so quickly.

Re clearing - our lovely neighbour also used to put out the bags of rubbish for us. She had a back gate key and could access a garage from the back. So we left dozens of bags there and she would put them in various peoples' bins for us!

Do get some r and r time please.

Definitely echo apple's comment about r&r time - be careful that you don't end up running on empty and it all catching up with you when you finally pause to catch a breath xx

Just wondering (feel free to ignore as it is none of my business) why Mr Watty's stepdad's sons and grandsons weren't more involved with him when alive/ clearing his house/ arranging funeral now that he's gone? Are they not willing to share the load with you? It's a mentally & physically exhausting time.

Great news on finding executor - that ticks one box (has to be easier dealing with an amenable, if reluctant, executor than the process of dealing with an untraceable one! :)

So too is putting unwanted letters etc back in the envelope and writing 'don't know why I've kept this, sold the shares years ago' :rotfl:(Mr GG's mum, still going strongish at 93), and totting up all you own on the back of receipts. That was my ex's uncle, he has stuff everywhere and we had fun trying to guess the year of the receipt by how much ££££'s he had :D. Actually, it did alert us to two accounts we didn't know about. Ex was executor so we felt we had to go through everything with a fine toothcomb (though all money divided eight ways it was never going to make a massive difference but uncle had been so frugal we felt we had to honour his ways by tracking it all down!!!).

Watty, sorry to hear the news and about the upset. Glad you've found a good compromise. I'll be having Climb Every Mountain or Edelweiss at mine as I've been persuaded that The Lonely Goatherd is not appropriate :(.

Nope. They have had nothing to do with him for years. As they are Mr Watty's brother and nephews I can say very little but boy can I grumble for England if I know it wont get back. I am frankly appalled that Mr Watty's brother and Mr Watty's nephews have made no effort over the last 10 years to care for their step dad or show any interest in him or visit.
They will not be attending funeral (simple service that it is)
Nor are they going to help now.
Sorting through papers today at the house I realised we have been carrying the care since 2010 which is a long time. And it has taken a toll on us and our relationship.
The brother has claimed distance (he lives about 200 miles away) and not having been particularly close to his stepdad (only dad they have known)
I have always been appalled by this - but - sigh - its family and so I have said little.
I warned today I will not be so tolerant if their mother needs care as I am not carrying the load another time ......

I'm sorry to say that I did lose that plot today and say that if they are expecting their share of the money the least they could do is get their butts down here and clear the place out ......and that I'm not ffing clearing for them (I always feel I have a lovely turn of phrase when riled and show my education was not wasted :rotfl:)
