Just had hair cut to improve chances of looking business like at the weekend. £39.40!
Never paid much attention to costs before, but, am now thinking might be worth looking for trainee nights at local salons. Do they still do such things I wonder?
Might also look at see if local colleges have a salon as that might be a cheap alternative too.
My wash, cut and blow dry costs £24 ish, I never colour my hair and have it cut every 5-6 weeks so probably spend £200-£250 a year having it done.
I have had it done at a local college before, no complaints about cut and you could only have it done in term time so it was fine when I had long hair and would go months without a cut but doesn't work now.
I'm blonde and one of the girls at the college didn't believe my hair wasn't dyed and shouted about this across the room to her tutor but apart from that no complaints at all.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

I get mind done by the trainee at a nearby 'up market' hair dressers. I have a simple do (I've had a few disasters in the past and it all looks the same after a few week's growth anyway) so I trust her to do it, no colour and it costs me £25 three times a year or so. I don't think I'd go to a college, just because I think getting an apprentice job shows a bit more commitment to a career and she's surrounded by qualified people so I can relax a bit!Mortgage Apr 18 £417,894 BTL Mar 18 £162,857

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Great comments on hair cuts, thank you!
Was in London at the weekend and found that HobSalons will cut for free if a trainee does it. Now, I dont live anywhere near London but might be able to combine with a work trip into town so will file that away.
Also looked into local colleges and between £1.50 and £15 depending which college. So some options sorted for next time around.
Saturday lecture went fine. On the way there I stopped for petrol and caught sight of the lottery scratch cards. Have never bought one before ...but...did. And happy to report that the card was a winner :T Cost of scratchcard £1 and I won (drumroll) ..... £1 :rotfl:
I quit while I was ahead but I laughed all day about that:) The man gave me my £1 and asked if I wanted another one and I said no, that was my first and probably last time ever:TMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

I cut my hair myself - high ponytail (scraped straight back - no parting), another band around the tail itself (slide that down to a few inches from the end), then snip the ends of the tail so it looks like a shaving brush. Take hair down. Good shake and brush, then fiddle around with the front a bit (I put in some shorter bits around my face) - done! Obvioulsy only works for that one style though! :rotfl:
I love that you broke even on your scratch card!Sealed Pot Challenge - No. 117

Well Eds the pony has moved house again. He has returned to his previous person as she really missed him and I was not coping with his lack of manners. Bolshy ponies are one thing but one that barges off every time I tried to lead him somewhere quite another.
Even Mr Watty finally admitted that the little chaps manners were beyond the pale and he had no idea what C had done with him. After talking to C it turned out she would love to have him back so Eds has made the return journey.
Down the cost of lorry hire £280 and fuel £135 and snacks en-route but the little chap was happy to get back there and calm is restored here :TMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Aw bet Mr Watty is missing him
I have to say, that must be the ultimate MSE sacrifice getting someone who is still training to cut your hair
My pony had to be fenced off at the yard yesterday coz of his recent very bad behaviour so I do see where you are coming from moving Mr Ed...Mortgage starting balance 2011 ... £170k today £1.5k

Yes - but - he is also really happy at the outcome. And he is talking about buying himself a couple of young fells as projects maybe next year.
Just back from fabulous lunge lesson where again lots of work without reins and stirrups. These lunge lessons are wonderful for re-building my confidence so am loving them.
Home to start work, but, just before doing so checked bank accounts and transferred some money into the savings pot.
The extra work is paying off - but - once this lot is cleared I will be rethinkingMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
