Barter works! Thats great
Mixed about Most Handsome staying with the vet surgeons, of course - great that he's getting the best there is, just wish he didn't need it ...
I'm glad the 15 mins thing appealed - I do it myself, every day.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Finally chance to update. Most handsome has arthritis in hocks (hind legs sort of knee joint for the non horsey) and a problem with his sacriiac (sp?) joint. Vet clinic suggested 6 months rest - which we have done - and then try bringing him back to work. They can add further treatments if we still have a problem - but - suggested I try the least invasive least expensive approach first. So will be doing that.
Need to buy a saddle as it seems those I have don't fit!
And self - well - not so great. Been to Portugal for a few days which was lovely but still not feeling great. Enjoyed 3 full days resting in sun, seeing the amazing Lisbon horse show and just enjoying town with 2 girlfriends. Spendy shopping with girlfriends involved whilst out there as came home with new dress, two new tops, perfume and a lovely new suede jacket which was the bargin price of 50 euros. None of this was neededbut all will be enjoyed
Remind me I had fun when the Credit Card bill arrives
Overall still feeling awful however. So after an extensive internet search I have found a private clinic and am seeing a private doctor next week. The bill with various tests is likely to be around £700 I think. At first I was reluctant feeling I already pay a lot in taxes so NHS can sort - but - it really isn't working for me and I feel so awful I'm going to try the private approach. Appointment for next week. Am hopeful I will feel better if we can get to the bottom of what is wrong.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Well, its lovely that you had such a good time in Portugal, but I'm sorry its so bad that you need to go private - and if you're feeling that bad, then yes, you need it, as you can do it.
My mum faced this issue years ago - the NHS is for us, isn't it? Well, not always - the range of treatments doesn't suit everyone, and even after diagnosis, the wait for treatment when you're in pain can be horrendous. You have to do what's right for you. Expresing your political preference at the expense of your health is a non-starter, honestly.
The only thing I'd say is, have you done enough checking around for the doctor you want to see? And £700 doesn't sound a lot for consultation and tests ... are you sure on the finances? Still, no matter what it is, if it helps you get well, its worth every penny.

Well I'm not actually in pain. I'm just low grade depressed. Own dr has rightly assessed situation but suggests we *wait and see* . Am so tired of seeing the months roll past and feeling dreadful that I'm just going to pay.
I think the NHS is brilliant for emergencies, serious stuff, critical care. But low grade, look I feel crap have no energy, am depressed has so far been blamed on "just one of those things", my age, job stress, hormones and "that's just life everyone feels like that".
I've spoken to the receptionist and they gave me a £700 for first visit, £300 for follow up visit and I'm budgeting on around £1500 all in over the next few months.

the interesting thing to me is that I am happy to spend the money as I just see that it was a months mortgage payment before I got serious about overpaying.

Hi Watty, long time lurker here. Sorry to hear about you and most handsome gelding. My boy had his suspensory ligaments operated on and still gets a bit stiff, so I have been researching supplements for him. There is a lot of positive news on turmeric and it is apparently very good for arthritis and depression, might be worth a try for both of you! There is a group on facebook called tumeric users group which has a lot of info. Mine has arrived today, so am starting to feed tomorrow and keeping fingers crossed! Good luck xx0

When I was having my vertigo last year, I went private for a consultation and an MRI scan.
I have no regrets about this, it speeded up the process so I didn't have to worry for weeks about what was wrong with me.
If the money is available, and it helps you find a solution, it is money well spent.
Best wishes to you, and poor most handsome.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Thanks Lyndseyr75. Would love to hear how you get on with the Tumeric.
And yes Goldie, that is how I'm looking at it too
Lovely day out on Saturday - went to Hickstead to watch the showjumping Mr Watty had a ticket that got us both in free so just £10 on the carparking. Fab day out
Bought 1st Christmas present :xmassmile 3 handmade felt greyhounds to hang on a tree for friend who has 2 retired hounds and as it supported the charity felt most pleased.
and possible result. Chance conversation chatting with someone led to a conversation about saddles as these things do and she has same problem saddling her boy as I do (v short backed) and has the same dressage saddle as me - and - things UK saddler a bit of a *** and she suggested I ring the German manufacturer which I had never thought of doing. Ta da. They say they can alter the saddle to fit they think and have sent me a chart to tell me how to measure the boy and what measurements and so on. have to go out and get a flexi wire to do this - and ship saddle to Germany - but if this works it could be a real moneysaving solution to getting a saddle to fit Most Handsome whilst he comes back into work :jMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
