Members do so simply stating the facts and the risks, if the OP wants to ignore then fine, he can now make informed choice or undertake further research, I even posted the regs.
Instead of that OP then reposts berating these members for being "know alls" and "scaremongering" simply because a Sky employee tells him its is fine.
This forum seems to be the worst for it.
Yes thanks for your input. For your information i done some research on the issues raised then spoke to an independent specialist who gave me impartial advice he was not installing the system. So like i said before everything is working as it should so the matter is now closedjust because you are paranoid doesnt mean to say they are not out to get you0 -

If what I posted was incorrect rather than just calling me names could you possibly correct the information so that others who read this thread in future will know?
Thanks,YNWA

I advise you not to post on this part of the forum in future, if you do, you're likely to find you are given short shift by those with long memories (and the ability to use the search function).tight_scotsman wrote: »the matter is now closed !!!!!!
I think most especially, don't ever post about any problems you have with a shared dish!:D0 -
Just to confirm (I'm an engineer) that the installation as described is inherently dangerous if it has not been "earth bonded" by a qualified electrician. I would strongly advise getting an electrician in to do this.0

I thought I was probably correct (to at least some degree). It is not like I am the sort of person to come online and spout rubbish, I come on here to try and help people, obviously some people are just ignorant and rude. Wish I could thank you twice Moneymaker!YNWA

Its a shame you cant admit you are wrong my sky is working just fine done by a proffesional not some know all on an internet forum.
so take your advice elsewhere it will likely be wrong anywayjust because you are paranoid doesnt mean to say they are not out to get you0 -
It may well work but electrically it is a dangerous arrangement.
The person who fitted it is a Sky TV engineer not an electrician so probably knows nothing about earth bonding (probably thinks thats a quickie in a field), cross phase faults etc. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I totally agree with mugwimp.
I live in a close of 4 bungalows in a square and, a few months ago, the bungalow diagonally opposite mine and my next door neightbour both had a severe voltage drop (all lights very dim, most TVs wouldn't switch on) whereas I and the 4th bungalow had no problems.
My son (20 years an electrician) explained to me about 415 volts and so on (he lost me very quickly) and the problem was because we were on different phases and there was a fault on one phase.
It turned out to be a fault at the local sub-station but proved the point about adjacent properties being on different phases.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Tight Scotsman .... I have no interest in your installation. Your lack of bonding is YOUR problem not mine BUT Sky installers are INSTALLERS, they are not ENGINEERS.
Your professional installation was probably carried out by someone who has absolutely no knowledge of the regulations. In general he does not NEED to have any knowledge of the regulations. The person on the phone has no knowledge of them either.
There are a couple of the posters above who do have the knowledge. Choose to ignore it if you wish, you'll probably be absolutely fine .... but you just might not.0
