Setting up the DVD recorder to work with Sky+ HD box & the telly?

STB=Set Top Box.
If all you want to do is play a DVD then connect your player to the TV with one SCART into the AV(audio/visual)1 port on your TV. Select "play" on your DVD and the correct SCART should be automatically selected. If not, manually select AV1 from the Tv's menu.
Remove the cabling from the RF out and discard, it's redundant.0 -

If you had access to digital channels such as Freeview channels then it would be digital. Digital clocks have been around for a long, long time even in analogue days. 2006 would be unlikely to be digital. As for what we're doing when the problem occurs - just simply trying to play a DVD.
Pressing play should be enough to get both picture and sound. As for recording - i don't think it's needed to be used as a recorder any more. I think it was bought in before the days of Sky+, or around the time it was launching maybe? Either way we didn't have Sky+ i know that much. It was used to record Sky channels to DVD. Now that we have Sky+, we don't need the recording side of the DVD unit .... so it's just used as a player and not a recorder any more.
Then simply have one scart to the TV and nowhere else.0 -
SCART not needed for Sky box to TV, remove it to get rid of conflict, unless you know of a reason to have it.
Sky - HDMI - TV
Sky - Video SCART - SCART input on DVD.
DVD - SCART output - TV SCART.
If the DVD does have an aerial input, just plug the aerial straight into it, don't go through the Sky box.
How's that work?0 -

There never was a scart from Sky box to TV.Sky - HDMI - TV
Sky - Video SCART - SCART input on DVD.
DVD - SCART output - TV SCART.
That's what the OP said he had done, although it's not entirely clear which scarts on the DVD recorder were going where. If the DVD does have an aerial input, just plug the aerial straight into it, don't go through the Sky box.
As the OP's Mum doesn't appear to have a digital DVD recorder, what's the point of the aerial in? All analogue stations have been switched off in the UK so an aerial input is redundant.0 -
jem16 - as you've seen from the previous 30 posts, there was some confusion about what OP had, and I tried to simplify it, and you've now clarified it.
If OP can come back and confirmed they've tested this setup (and whether the DVD has an analogue or digital tuner) we can start diagnosing better. Model numbers would also be useful.0 -

Very true!If OP can come back and confirmed they've tested this setup
The OP has confirmed this.(and whether the DVD has an analogue or digital tuner)JustAnotherSaver wrote: »As for analogue/digital - how do i tell? The front display is digital as it has the clock on if that helps? It's an old unit, probably about 2006 or so at a guess?0 -
