Setting up the DVD recorder to work with Sky+ HD box & the telly?

Basically my mum did a bit of feng shui recently & moved the telly to do a spot of decorating. Story short - the DVD player/recorder now wont work properly.

I've connected everything up so that the Sky+HD box works. The DVD player does work in that it plays the picture, but there's no audio coming through.

I've just ran a Scart lead from the DVD player to the telly.

How should this be connected up properly?

She found a few cables which she "thinks" were plugged in, but i've tried them against all possible ports & they don't fit in any.

i'm thinking that she might have done Sky to DVD by scart and also Sky to TV with HDMI.
  • I'll post up in the morning exactly what is going to where as i'm not sure without looking, but for now - the sound always came out of the TV, no other speakers.
  • Just had a look tonight actually, so here's what's plugged into what...

Sky box to TV = HDMI cable
    DVD to TV = SCART
    DVD to Sky = SCART
From the Sky RF Out 1 port runs a cable into the DVD player.

& that's it, minus the obvious power cables & the 2 cables from the Sky box that run to the dish.
  • It seems that the Scart and HDMI connections are in conflict. Obviously, you can't receive or record HD on a DVD recorder so unless you watch in HD I'd try removing the HDMI cable .
  • The HDMI cable is from the Sky HD box to the TV, that is needed, you dont want to be using a scart lead from a Sky HD box.
Yes, but the DVD recorder is connected via SCART and I fear this is why there is no sound. I suggested removing the HDMI simply to ascertain whether the two cables were in conflict. I fully realise HDMI is the superior connection and I did mention this was the only way to watch in HD. There seems to a lot of redundant connections in the OP's set-up. For example, what does the OP need an RF connection for?

They shouldn't be. I've got both connected and they're fine.

OP - check that the scarts are fully located as this can be the reason you have no sound.

Yes, this was mentioned earlier, "fully located" just means pushed into place as firmly as possible. I assumed the OP had already tried this before posting again exactly what the set up was.
  • It might be a digital DVD recorder thus requiring the RF loop from the box.
I'm spoiled, I just use a PVR these days.:)

Except the OP doesn't mention an RF in to the Sky box.

I would put RF in to the DVD recorder and no need for RF out.
